Work you'll do
As a Deloitte Consulting Health Actuary Specialist Leader in the Insurance practice of Deloitte's Human Capital group, you will assist Deloitte Managers, Senior Managers and Partners in providing strategic and technical consulting services to health plans, providers, Federal and State governments, PBMs, etc.

Deloitte's health actuaries are participating in the development of evidence based medicine, and the transition of payments from paying for what is done to paying for the value provided. Deloitte health actuaries are involved in designing new programs that are smarter about how public funds are spent. These types of problems require actuaries who are not only technically strong, but also can be innovative, capable of addressing ill defined, complex problems and have a business orientation.
Other responsibilities include:
Lead a team creating a model to value the impact of health care reform on an health plan client
Design leading edge medical and pharmacy products to attract healthy members to a health plan
Price medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision benefits
Assist clients to define underwriting policies to reduce selection
Assess an organization's gaps and identify opportunities for improvements based on market leading practices
Develop / identify cost savings opportunities for state Medicaid programs
Lead the development of Medicaid rates for various populations including women and children, long term care, and developmentally disabled
Create a strategy to capitalize on health care reform changes
Review reserves in support of Deloitte & Touche audits of health care liabilities
Prepare and present client presentations and reports to executive leadership
Manage project budgets and financials
Conduct other Senior Manager level health actuarial consulting activities, as required
Advise client executives on value based, accountable care strategy
Develop add on or new sale business
The Organization Transformation practice is about transforming the organization (and the benefits providers that serve them) to support its business strategy. This involves helping our clients move from where they are today to where they need to be in the future. It could include changing the organization's culture, modernizing specific functions, re-designing the organization structure, and will require a combination of change management actions to execute the transformation. To enable our success, it will be critical to use data and insights to inform better ways of working together.
8+ years of health actuary experience
Experience managing staff and leading medium to large sized teams
Willingness to travel at least 50%
8+ years of consulting and/or health plan/insurance company experience
Experience with Health Plans, Group Insurance (LTC, disability, etc.) Companies, Federal Agencies, State Medicaid Agencies, PBMs, and/or Provider organizations. Including:
o Compliance and Filing
o Product development
Strong understanding of health care reform and the implications on health plans including 3 Rs
Executive, board room presence; comfortable speaking with every level
Ability to develop business and manage large multi-threaded projects/teams
Well-organized with the ability to handle several projects/clients simultaneously
Well-developed oral and written communication skills
Ability to travel up to 80% for periods of time
The following locations are HIGHLY preferred: Minneapolis, Chicago, New York City, Milwaukee, San Francisco and Los Angeles
