The success of the athletics program is measured by its alignment with the mission of the College, defined in the College's mission statement. Integrating the goals of the College with the mandates established by the NCAA, Patriot League, IRA, Hockey East and Atlantic Hockey, the Department of Athletics recognizes a dual commitment to serve both the student-athletes and the College.

The Position

The Holy Cross women's basketball program is the most successful women's basketball program in the history of the Patriot League. The women's basketball program has won 11 Patriot League championships and 11 Patriot League regular-season championships. The College seeks an innovative and dynamic leader of its women's basketball program, who will work with students, staff, and alumni across the College to build and maintain excellence in its women's basketball program. The head coach is expected to recruit and retain a diverse group of exceptional coaches and student-athletes, while promoting academic and athletic excellence for the program. The head coach will work with the Director of Athletics and other administrators to support the overall goals and objectives of the College.

Responsibilities & Expectations for the Position

The head women's basketball coach will provide a clear vision for the program that is consistent with the traditions and mission of the College and the athletics department. Success in all the following areas will be crucial to meeting these expectations, and applicants should describe experiences and achievements that demonstrate, in a compelling way, the capacity to be successful in each of the following areas:

  • Maintaining the College's commitments to academic and athletic excellence, personal growth and development and full participation in all aspects of college life.

  • Responsible for the management and administration of an intercollegiate women's basketball program that regularly competes for Patriot League championships.

  • Hiring, motivating, supervising, evaluating and developing assistant coaches.

  • Ability to identify and recruit top-level student-athletes, along with a strong desire to teach, coach and mentor a group of diverse young women.

  • Managing program budget, travel, and equipment logistics with department administration.

  • Representing the program internally and externally with entities including, but not limited to, faculty and staff, admissions and financial aid, friends and family of Holy Cross basketball, fans, donors, and the greater college community.

  • Organizing, managing, and directing the women's basketball program effectively and providing for full compliance with all applicable College, NCAA and Patriot League rules.

Requirements:

Specific Qualifications for the Position

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.

  • Previous experience and success with Division I athletics programs is highly desirable; success as a Division I, II or III head coach is also highly desirable.

  • Proven commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.

  • An understanding of the recruitment process and the ability to collaboratively work with Admissions staff in the enrollment of student-athletes to an academically rigorous institution.

  • Demonstrated commitment to understand, value and respect diversity as an individual, in a team and within groups while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

  • Evidence of high ethical standard as well as personal and professional integrity.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external constituencies.

  • Entrepreneurial and optimistic mindset in regard to resource management and evaluation. Experience, ability and willingness to be involved in fundraising.

  • Affiliation and active engagement with professional organizations appropriate to the position.

  • Commitment to exemplify the values and mission of the College of the Holy Cross.

The Position This position is responsible for leading a NCAA Division I women's soccer program by recruiting and developing qualified student-athletes, supervising assistant coaches, budget management, participation in alumni relations, fundraising and promoting sportsmanship in all phases of a successful intercollegiate soccer program. The head coach must conduct the program in a manner that recognizes the primacy of academics by recruiting, supporting, and retaining student-athletes who will be competitive in the Patriot League. The head coach must ensure that the women's soccer program operates in compliance with all College, Patriot League and NCAA rules and regulations. Major Areas of Responsibility * Coach a competitive soccer program which meets annually established goals in a manner that promotes sportsmanship among athletes, and ensures compliance with all NCAA, Patriot League and institutional rules and regulations. * Identify talented, academically qualified prospective student-athletes by effectively communicating with high school coaches, club coaches, prospects and parents, and supporting key applicants within admissions and financial aid offices. * Participate in marketing, community service and fundraising initiatives through engaging in special events to generate interest within the College community, alumni, and region. * Responsible for administration of all phases of the program, including but not limited to monitoring team budget, completing expense reports, preparing annual evaluations for all direct reports and conducting sports camps and/or clinics. * Effectively supervise the activities of assistant coaches, student-athletes and other individuals associated with the program to result in a competitive, ethical and compliant program. * Provide leadership on a consistent basis that helps the team achieve academic and athletic success. Head coach monitors academic progress, develops training programs that are safe and effective for student-athletes, schedules games and practices in accordance with College policies, coordinates travel arrangements, oversees selection of team equipment and apparel, coordinates video analysis, develops game strategies, and maintains records as required. * Maintain an environment that reflects the department's commitment to excellence, integrity, respect and leadership. Collaborates with sport administrator and/or Director of Athletics to develop annual goals for program. Communicates program's needs and concerns responsibly and in timely manner. Attends workshops, training sessions and meetings required for head coaches by the College and the conference. * Perform other duties as assigned by sport supervisor and/or Director of Athletics. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree required. * Previous coaching experience required, preferably at the Division I level. * Fundraising experience preferred. * Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. * Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required. * Computer and video editing skills strongly encouraged.
