Job Title Head Volleyball Coach Position Summary
The head volleyball coach works as a member of the Athletic Department. Responsibilities include planning and directing an NAIA varsity athletic team by instructing, training, and recruiting student-athletes. Over 65% of time on the job will be spent on the direct instruction of skills and strategies necessary to prepare for and compete in the activity. Ancillary job duties are found below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruit and maintain a quota of qualified student-athletes who meet the requirements for entrance into Texas Wesleyan University.
Hire, train, and supervise assistant or student assistant coaches.
Responsible for fundraising for appropriate dollar amounts through donations or special projects.
Effectively coach his/her team.
Oversee the student-athletes meet GPA requirements each semester.
Develop a yearly budget and control spending to ensure the sport is not over budget.
Schedule all practices, games and contests, including scrimmages. Acquire complete schedule approved by Faculty Athletic Committee (FAC) and Athletic Director prior to competition.
Be familiar with the eligibility requirements for NAIA student athletes and teams and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
Comply with both NAIA and University policies and procedures.
Complete accurate monthly reports in a timely manner.
Supervise student-athletes during practice and games to ensure that the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity are maintained.
Develop, write and administer a yearly plan.
Evaluate his/her intercollegiate athletic program continuously.
Arrange for all athletic awards in his/her area.
Represent the University in public presentations as needed.
Conduct outreach activity(s) in the local community.
Arrange safe transportation for all away contests.
Attend clinics and workshops to achieve certification and/or keep skills current.
Assist in the coordination of the department special activities.
Serve on the coaches and other committees as assigned by Provost or Athletic Director.
Available for varied hours, including: weekends and evenings/holidays.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
Bachelor's degree required
Masters preferred in Physical Education or related field
Valid driver's license
Experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of sport coaching required, where available certification preferred.
Familiarity with NAIA policies and procedures is preferred.
Ability and authority to drive a 15-passenger van, i.e. a safe driving record.
Ability to write neatly and accurately.
Ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice.
Ability to adhere to University and departmental office procedures and policies.
Ability to be discrete with confidential matters, while complying with privacy/security regulations.
Ability to be consistently punctual at work & ability to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
Ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks.
