REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent or higher degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

  • At least two years of experience in a classroom setting or combination of two years of experience in both classroom and group settings with young children, and must possess a California Child Development Center Permit or Child Development Teacher Permit (or higher).

  • Advance intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, phonemic, and print awareness, understanding and use of language and increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, appreciation of books understanding of early math and science, problem-solving skills, and approaches to learning;

  • Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment; - Support the social and emotional development of children; and

  • Encourage family involvement of the children in a Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families. Desirable: Bilingual in English and in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese.

Position: HEAD START TEACHER (Head Start/State Preschool Program) PART DAY Hours: 8 hours per day (7:30am-4:00pm) Months: 10 months per year Monthly Salary: $3,787.57 - $4,833.84 per month Location: Site To Be Determined Number of Positions: 2 Definition: Under general supervision, to plan and implement learning and enrichment experiences for pre-school age children; to provide for the physical care and safety of children; to monitor assigned assistants; to maintain official documents and records; implement performance standards and licensing regulations as required by federal and state regulations and to perform related work as assigned. Assistant teachers that already hold an associate's degree or higher do not have to continue enrolling in courses, however do have to have a yearly individual professional development plan. (Must be submitted with application). • Experience caring for or providing recreational or educational activities for children. • Must successfully pass the application screening phase • Must successfully pass the Garvey School District Proficiency Test • Completion of a Criminal Records Check will be required prior to beginning work. • Completion of a Certificate or Medical Examination that includes screening for Tuberculosis Desirable: <br><br> Bilingual in English and in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese.
