This Position is the Education and Special Services (Disability/Mental Health) content area coordinator, responsible for over-seeing the day-to-day operation of the preschool and after school education services. The Head Start Coordinator ensures that the Federal, State, and Tribal grant regulations and policies are being adhered to. This individual is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive child development program, preschool through third grade, that is established on researched based principles and theories and meets the Head Start Performance Standards and Alaska Native Education requirements, while fostering and embracing the role of the parent as the primary and first educator of the child. He/she coordinates the special service component, which includes disability and mental health services provided to the students. The coordination of these components include tracking, monthly reporting, completion of required screenings, assessments, and interpretation of data collected. This person fosters teamwork through effective communication and is organized and demonstrates excellent time management skills. The Head Start Coordinator ensures that training and development of the staff is ongoing, individualized and meets all regulations and licensing requirements.
Track all teaching staff's progress on child individualization, completion of child portfolios, transition planning and completion of daily observation notes within Teaching Strategies GOLD.
Create a positive atmosphere for children; assist with effective transitions between activities, modeling for parents through the implementation of Creative Curriculum, Kenaitze Culture and Language and consistent use of appropriate discipline and problem solving skills (Project Achieve-Stop & Think).
Become a CLASS certified observer to ensure implementation of tools and skills that produce effective teacher/child interactions and guide professional development planning.
On an annual basis, develop and/or revise policy and procedures that guide best practices for the Education, Disability and Mental Health Content areas.
On a weekly basis, enter all required data and information for Education, Disability and Mental Health content areas into our internal server/Child Plus database tracking system.
Ensure regular communication between staff and parents through newsletters, memos, information brochures, flyers, handbooks, and forms.
Disability Content Area
Provide oversight of the administration of all DIAL 4 screenings and DECA assessments, score completed screenings, and use end results to identify children with potential developmental delays; follow up with referrals as necessary.
Collaborate with Special Service team members for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to plan, implement, and evaluate Disability Services for children with special needs.
Ensure teaching teams follow Individual Education Plan and Individual Family Service Plan (IEP/IFSP) in the classrooms; will assure compliance with USDA 7 CFR 15b.6. as designated Section 504 Coordinator.
In partnership with the teaching team, participate in all IEP/IFSP meetings and ensure parents are knowledgeable of their parental rights as outlined in the laws of IDEA.
Mental Health Content Area
Provide oversight of the administration of Social/Emotional screenings for all enrolled children, score and use the results to determine if further evaluation by the Mental Health consultant, or outside referral, is required.
Track and coordinate the services of the Mental Health Consultant.
Coordinate trainings for families in the Mental Health area, such as, balancing work/life and positive parenting.

In-State- Anchorage for training
Five years' experience of classroom management or education administration.
Two years experience of office and supervisory tasks.
Experience in timely reporting, and handling large volumes of data and paperwork.
Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or obtain within 90 days).
CLASS Certified (or obtain within 90 days).
Must have a valid Alaska driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong organizational, planning and reporting skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Knowledge of community resources.
Understanding and ability to work with the family centered philosophy.
Prior home visiting experience.
Ability to research, creatively resolve, and document unusual situations.
Experience with Head Start/Former Head Start Parent.
Knowledge and experience working with Cultural Diversities.
