Brief Position Overview
The position of Head Sports Performance Coach within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is a 12-month, full-time position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. MSUB is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and competes at the NCAA Division II level with 15 men's and women's varsity teams in basketball, cross country, soccer, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and golf, as well as women's volleyball, women's softball, and men's baseball plus co-educational cheerleading.The Head Sports Performance Coach reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, in coordination with the MSUB Athletic Training Staff, is responsible for the development, supervision, implementation, and overall operation of the department's sports performance program for all varsity sports including co-educational cheerleading. The Head Sports Performance Coach will manage a highly functioning operation that will provide a safe, energetic, and encouraging environment that will add to the positive student-athlete experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
General oversight of MSUB Athletics' Sports Performance program.
Designs, develops, implements, and instructs sports performance programs for 15 NCAA Division II athletic teams and co-ed cheer.
Works with Recreation Department on maintaining/enforcing policies and procedures for the use of the weight training and fitness facilities, including a fully functional exercise facility schedule to accommodate the needs of the athletics teams.
Works with Athletics Department on use of non-university space (for example Granite Health & Fitness or School District 2 properties).
Instructs proper lifting and plyometrics techniques and running mechanics
Works with the athletic training staff to create and implement dynamic team warm-ups designed to focus on injury prevention and performance maximization.
Works with the athletic training staff to promote overall injury prevention within each sport.
Work with the athletic training staff to design and modify sport performance programs to aid in the recovery of injured student-athletes to progress safely back to practice and competition.
Counsels student-athletes on nutrition to reach optimal health and performance while educating on the dangers inherent to illegal/banned performance-enhancing drugs.
Supervises the sports performance staff, including Sports Performance Associate(s), and Assistant(s).
Supervises and mentors any qualified interns.
Oversight of web-based sports performance/strength & conditioning software.
Administer summer voluntary workouts with student-athletes in the fitness facilities and provide home programming for students when requested by student-athletes over institutional break periods.
Supports retention of student-athletes at MSUB.
Complete CEU's, professional development, annual programming, and other administrative tasks to be ready for the next academic year over the summer months.
Maintains a high level of professionalism on and off the field toward student athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and members of the community.
Participate in periodic meetings with the athletic training staff and Director of Athletics.
Maintain compliance with all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician, and/or Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others.
Sound human relationship skills in dealing with student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators, other university personnel, and members of the off-campus community.
Possess an outcomes-oriented approach to coaching.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to lift up to 50-100 lbs.
Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications
Experience Required:
Candidates must maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
Strength and conditioning certification in conjunction with NCAA rules, recommendations, and regulations, (CSCS, TSAC-F, SCCC or CSC) required with preference given to the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules, regulations, and guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Education Preferred:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience Preferred:
Previous strength and conditioning/sports performance experience.
Previous college coaching experience.
Certifications/training in nutrition for athletes.
Previous experience with web-based sports performance/strength & conditioning software (i.e., Team Buildr).
Previous administrative experience.
Ability to speak to large groups.
High motivation and energy level.
Strong people and organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to multitask.
Must have a positive attitude, enjoy working with student-athletes, and a passion for helping others achieve optimal performance.
