Berry College invites applications and nominations for the full-time head softball coach position.
ABOUT BERRY SOFTBALL: Berry College softball began its inaugural season in 2010.
In just twelve seasons, the program has risen to the top of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) and been competitive on the national stage, with recent back-to-back NCAA Division III College World Series appearances in 2022 & 2023. Since 2013, the Vikings have won nine of the last eleven SAA Regular Season Championships and seven of the previous nine SAA Tournament Championships and have advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship seven of the nine seasons. In 2018, the Vikings clinched the NCAA Division III Atlanta Regional title to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in program history. This is a unique opportunity to build upon a strong foundation within a nationally competitive program and athletic department with multiple nationally ranked teams.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will be responsible for all facets of Berry College's nationally competitive softball program. The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to a liberal arts education, Division III athletics, and an appreciation for and commitment to NCAA, Southern Athletic Association (SAA), and institutional culture.
Along with coaching responsibilities, the candidate will be assigned administrative duties in the Department of Athletics. The ideal candidate will subscribe to the Berry College Mission of educating the head, heart, and hands.
HEAD:
Focus on academics first to develop and grow scholar-athletes.
Instruct students on the proper techniques, strategies, and game planning.
Provide education through daily practice and individual skill instruction.
HEART:
Serve as a mentor to student-athletes and student-workers.
Support and contribute to achieving an inclusive "Good Neighbor" culture.
Create and participate in campus and community service opportunities.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and care on and off the field toward student-athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators, and community members.
HANDS:
Build relationships with alumni, parents, and community members.
Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet admission standards.
Serve with administrative expertise in creating a competitive schedule to provide high-level student experiences.
Supervise, train, and provide work direction and problem-solving assistance for the assistant coach and student staff.
Operate financially within the provided athletic budget and approved gift dollars. Manage annual reports, reviews, award nominations, etc
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in collegiate coaching experience.
Previous coaching and recruiting experience on the NCAA Division III collegiate level is preferred. A strong commitment to the Division III experience.
Professional oral and written communication skills; and basic business math.
Ability to think critically and solve problems; good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. Excellent organizational and customer service skills; ability to support the ever-changing higher education landscape.
