Job Description:

Ferring Pharmaceuticals is building its Oncology division with a mission to create a new standard of care for people living with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer who are unresponsive to BCG treatment, a population in urgent need of novel, effective and well-tolerated therapies. With an investigational therapy in Phase 3 clinical development, Ferring is building its commercial Uro-Oncology team and seeks candidates who share our experience and passion.

Ferring is expanding into Oncology and is establishing a full-time position for a communications and advocacy leader. This leader will play a key role in designing and delivering a cohesive multi-stakeholder communications plan for oncology and serving as a strategic advisor to the business unit's leadership team.

The Communications and Advocacy leader is responsible for planning, developing and implementing the external and internal communications strategy for the Oncology business unit/division at Ferring, which includes product communications, public relations, issues management, patient advocacy, thought leadership and employee engagement/communications for Oncology.

As a member of the division's leadership team, he or she will be responsible for supporting the strategic communications of the VP, Oncology, and will provide strategic counsel to the leadership team. This person will work closely with functional leadership in the U.S. and Global Headquarters to ensure strong coordination on strategy, messaging, implementation and measurement.

This role will have oversight for the department's communication budget and will manager all communication related vendors.


  • Creates, develops and implements a strategic communications and patient advocacy plan that helps build the company's reputation in oncology and strengthens trust with key stakeholders and influencers.

  • Supports commercial leadership with the successful management of a strategic communications plan for bladder cancer launch.

  • Traditional launch, pre-launch, data and conference communications across Oncology.

  • Oversees stakeholder mapping and messaging with critical input from oncology leadership team.

  • Create and execute annual brand communications plans.

  • Proactively manages the business's engagement with key patient advocacy organizations.

  • Creates and maintains an intelligence feedback loop on key external issues to inform the narrative and manage communication risk.

  • Proactive and Responsive Brand Media Relations.

  • Brand social media planning and execution.

  • Ensures a cohesive narrative across Ferring's communication channels and strong coordination with Communications department.

  • Support, create and facilitate internal employee engagement activities that help build the Oncology brand, educate our stakeholders and excite our population in support of our Oncology mission.


  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or related field.

  • Minimum 18+ years of professional experience in communications, public relations and advocacy.

  • 10+ years in pharmaceutical industry

  • Masterful command of the media and digital/social landscape, including hands-on experience leading successful programs with measurable results

  • Experience in Urology and/or Oncology therapeutic areas. Experience with bladder cancer communications and advocacy a plus

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Experience managing and implementing strategic plans and resources effectively

  • Strong understanding of issues currently affecting the healthcare industry

  • Experience in issues and crisis management

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams and work independently

  • Must have a proven track record in healthcare communications, preferably in oncology, and experience working with senior leadership and external stakeholders at other corporations or institutions.

  • Strong media contacts with healthcare industry press, including online and broadcast outlets

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities: * Therapeutic Area lead for assigned products and projects * Responsible for preparing the US Regulatory Strategy, input into the Global Strategy and collaborating with local or global teams, as assigned; also accountable for implementation of the strategies * Serve as the regulatory liaison with the FDA, including meetings and phone calls and associated documentation of same. * Serve as liaison for outside contractor and partners associated with assigned projects or products * Serve as Regulatory Subject matter Expert for Ferring, including FDA regulations and Guidance interpretations * Develop and implement regulatory timelines for both pre and post approval submissions that align with company goals and adhere to those agreed timelines by effectively managing departmental and external resources * Responsible for adherence of technical content to regulations and Guidance's or deviations agreed with FDA, as well as overall fileability of new submissions and compliance for approved products * Responsible for processes related to INDs, NDAs and BLAs as well as associated linking and quality check of the electronic versions * Problem-solve issues that may happen on projects, to preserve original timelines; track progress while being accountable for regulatory deliverables * Maintaining good regulatory archives as well as good communications with the project teams * Select, contract, and oversee consultants for scientific and/or policy areas of development * Anticipate need for resources and budget those needs in advance.
