If this sounds like a fit, we are looking to hire a Head of Strategy Implementation to join our newly formed MassMutual Alternatives Investments team.

The MassMutual Executive Leadership team has approved the funding to launch this new business. We are looking for a seasoned executive to help take this idea from 'project' stage to launch stage. In this role, you will need to demonstrate accountability, agility, a dedication to be inclusive, strong business acumen, and will to show courage, even in the most difficult situations.

What success looks like.

  • Partners with Head of the business to develop, articulate and pressure test the overall business strategy, objectives and plans

  • Leads in the creation of a detailed project plan for launch and oversee the plan implementation

  • Facilitates creation of financial models needed to understand the overall return profile of the business and business plan

  • Identifies and facilitates the cross-functional partnerships required to break-down complex, un-structured problems into sizeable and logical 'working assertions'

  • Participates as member of leadership team and contributes to development of financial, resource and operational planning needed to achieve department objectives

  • Inspires team and partners to take action, think strategically, engage with and influence senior business leaders

  • Demonstrates the ability to challenge the status quo thinking, practices and solutions

  • Takes charge in the face of difficulties and challenges and addresses emerging problems with focus and urgency

What your days and weeks will include.

  • Work along-side Head of the business to determine key short, medium and longer terms deliverables

  • Support creation and delivery of compelling presentations articulating strategy to key stakeholders

  • Check and adjust plan as needed; ensure tracking to successful launch

  • Coordinate with numerous internal and external constituents to ensure each are delivering on their respective commitments

  • Own the status reporting activities to be made to the senior leadership team.


The skills that make you a great fit.

  • Bachelors and/or advanced degree

  • Evidence of quantitative skillset

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in business, consulting or other related field.

  • Experience building strategy and roadmaps

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Creative, high energy problem solving/reasoning skills

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to work with and challenge senior leaders

  • Proven ability to lead through a matrix organization, providing feedback to partners at varying levels and from all areas of the broader organization

This remit entails (1) developing and executing on the overall Diagnostics strategy and vision, (2) building and leading the Diagnostics CoE to align with that strategy, and (3) activating an internal and external Diagnostics network of partners with diverse expertise and capabilities. * This leader will have a strong background in research and development for biopharmaceuticals, preferably in the diagnostics and rare disease spaces, but also is a transformative force for delivering strategy. The Head of Diagnostics Strategy & Development must have a patient-centric vision for the future, informed by internal and external stakeholders, and to co-develop and build a clearly defined roadmap and engagement strategy. * We seek a dynamic leader who can build and lead a new function and inspire a team. This leader will manage short and long-term priorities - designing and delivering solutions that meet the needs of patients we serve today and those whom we strive to serve in the future. * The role will be very cross-functional and collaborative in nature; as such, the leader will drive innovation in diagnostics by creating an environment that encourages people to surface ideas, respect diverse opinions, and embrace the best internal and external thinking. We expect the Head of Diagnostics Strategy & Development to continually explore areas and ways to innovate internally and collaborate externally to obtain ideas, capabilities, services, and execution. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Execute on vision, strategy, and goals for diagnostics at Alexion * Lead a team of staff through the design, development, and implementation of diagnostics across our prioritized disease areas * Lead network teams comprised of cross-functional experts from networked partners who are critical to the success of diagnostics, including, but not limited to, Biomarkers, Clinical Development, Quality, Legal, Patient Experience and Advocacy, Regulatory, Compliance, and Commercial. * Seek out innovative, next-generation technologies and drive integration of these new capabilities into our business strategy * Provide professional development and manage the performance feedback process for diagnostics core team * Drive the alignment of internal and external resources to deliver on the diagnostics strategy (subject matter experts, vendors, budgets, technologies, etc.) Qualifications Work Experience * Minimum of 10+ years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience in drug development; diagnostic development experience preferred * Strong at leading cross-functional development teams that include subject matter experts in clinical, project management, regulatory, quality, commercial, manufacturing, and discovery research. Experience leading and influencing in a matrix environment helpful * Demonstrated success in building a collaborative network across the enterprise and fostering an aligned approach to diagnostics projects * Proven success in establishing key relationships with and managing external partners (e.g. FDA, vendors) * General business acumen and project management experience, including the ability to prioritize, assess, and either continue or adapt in flight projects, create team and governance, and deploy new cross-functional processes * Aptitide for understanding and continuously seeking emerging, next-generation technologies, capabilities and how to apply them .
