As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

As the Head of Product Communications for Payments, you will lead the overall public relations strategy for our Google Pay products and Payments infrastructure, providing direction on specific product and business decisions. You'll be responsible for building compelling narratives and managing a variety of projects that help tell our vision to an external audience. You'll also provide direct communications support for our Payments executive team.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you'll you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, comms, marketing, product and beyond.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of relevant work experience in public relations or corporate communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Understanding of, and interest in, products, issues and trends in the financial tech world both at high and granular level.

  • Ability to work with colleagues in different countries and understand cultural differences.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team and lead efforts across disciplines.

  • Ability to work calmly and quickly in high stress environments.

  • Ability to tailor messages to the appropriate audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent media relations skills and relationships in order to help shape a story.

  • Work with executives for our Payments products to develop and deliver compelling messages related to the perception of our business.

  • Design and implement initiatives to communicate Google's key messages in relation to its payments business to media and industry analysts worldwide.

  • Create process and procedures to integrate our global communications and public affairs teams.

  • Manage media relations and represent Google's Payments business as a company spokesperson and front-line point of communication.

  • Manage a broad range of issues relating to our payments business, including privacy, service issues, fraud, competition, and the impact of new technologies and business model.

Preferred qualifications: * 10 years of product marketing experience in the technology space and/or on a global consumer product. * Demonstrated ability to analyze and distill data into actionable insights and relevant product improvements. * Ability to influence at all levels and work effectively across functions and geographies. * Exceptional communications skills. * Define the product vision based on user insights and be the voice of the user, using primary and secondary research and internal data and competitive intelligence to identify user needs and translate product features into consumer benefits. * Influence product development by earning the trust of product managers and engineering leads to reflect unmet user needs and solve for critical pain-points. * Oversee the implementation of effective multi-country marketing programs. Lead and motivate cross-functional, cross-country project teams. Drive innovative ideas that can scale across countries. * Work with internal teams, external partners and local country marketing teams to plan, execute and measure marketing that drives trial and usage of Google Photos. * Liaison with the Google Hardware team to design new features for their products and ensure the best representation of the Google Photos brand in their marketing.
