What's the role?

The Head of People Development, Learning & Belonging is a critical role in our organization, developing and sustaining enterprise-wide development programs, overseeing learning strategies and leadership programs, as well as helping to drive a culture that promotes psychological safety, our ZEISS cultural values and performance excellence. The mission of this role is to partner with both HR Business Partners and the business to help build extraordinary leadership, a robust talent pipeline, and learning strategies to help the organization stay current with the critical skills required to meet organizational goals. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who can think strategically as well as be hands-on, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, pay attention to detail, and collaborate across a matrix stakeholder map, and have knowledge of talent, learning and organizational development best practices.

Here's what you'll do:

Performance Development Program Execution

  • Oversee and drive the end-to-end performance management process at ZEISS (called Performance Development Dialogue "PDD"), leveraging the program and methodology design from our People & Organization Development Global Function Team (GFT) as well as operational processes and communications. Partner with North America business segment HR teams to drive an overall performance culture, seeking opportunities to develop organizational capability for people managers to engage in quality performance, feedback and development conversations with their teams.

Culture Leadership and Belonging

  • Support strategy and delivery of enterprise culture initiatives to enhance organization effectiveness.

  • Facilitate development of strategic solutions with key stakeholders, ability to see and manage interdependencies, and pursue novel solutions to meet business needs.

  • Analyze and understand the ZEISS cultural strengths, and opportunities.

  • Understand innovative industry trends, leading practices, and benchmarks to effectively prioritize and apply existing and emerging ideas to enable new and evolving business and operating models.

  • Conduct organizational assessments and use data-driven insights to uncover potential pain points and identify areas for development and change.

  • Act as the steward of ZEISS Employee Resource Groups ("ERG") and partner with HR Leadership and Communications to help cultivate a workplace that fosters and champions diversity, which is demonstrated through action, a place where everyone feels like they belong.

Talent, Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Partner with the People & Organizational Development GFT to develop, enhance and implement a competency framework across North America, including the ZEISS values

  • Communicate offerings and manage program participation, including nominations processes. Leverage external partners as needed.

  • Own and oversee the management of the E2E processes for ZEISS leadership programs such as First Leadership Experience (FLE) and Evolve Your Team for North America.

  • Create and/or implement global solutions for differential development offerings and experiences for key talent.

  • Establish and embed talent management capability across the organization in partnership with business aligned HR Business Partners, driving a culture that is able to articulate and identify talent, cultivate, develop and retain the talent for today and in the future.

  • Assess leadership proficiency and measure the impact of leadership development programs on capabilities, behaviors and business outcomes including correlation to performance management and people planning process outcomes.

  • Partner with the Talent Attraction team to develop and define an emerging Early Career Strategy.

Learning and Development Strategy

  • Analyze and diagnose enterprise-wide learning needs to validate, execute and sustain a multi-year roadmap. Partner closely with the business and HR strategies and stay informed of industry trends and best practices.

  • Oversee and facilitate learning through a variety of modalities, including live instructor-led training, virtual training, coaching/mentoring, etc. Work with SMEs and external vendor partners as needed, leveraging global vendors, relationships and tools.

  • Lead and develop awareness strategy and collaborate with change management practitioners in the business-aligned HR team, as well as Communications, to ensure key messages are effectively delivered to target audiences as much as possible.

  • Lead design work on training and development frameworks (if it is not possible to leverage from the GFT) to enable frameworks to enable programs' adoption at regional scale.

  • In partnership with the business, identify colleagues' skill gaps and work with the learning team to design appropriate interventions. Collaborate with the learning team on implementation strategy for learning.

Influencing and Collaboration

  • Promote a one ZEISS culture as a great place to work in alignment with ZEISS values.

  • Partner with internal business and HR teams to develop extraordinary leaders across the enterprise.

  • Engage and influence senior leaders and their teams to build a culture of continuous learning and determine how L&D can help support their needs and initiatives.

Do you qualify?

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required with 7+ years progressive L&D experience, with most recently as a Corporate Learning & Development Manager or Director or similar position in training or talent.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize problems to develop innovative solutions.

  • Track record of successfully structuring and developing bold and innovative strategies from the ground up. Strong planning and project management skills and the ability to manage budgets.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to see the bigger picture at every decision point, using an enterprise mindset.

  • Ability to influence, work collaboratively across all levels and lead without direct authority.

  • Practical thinker with demonstrated ability to keep things simple and positively impact the business.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with organizational development theories, change management methodologies and best practices in learning and development.

  • Ability to work with external vendors, including Request for Proposal process and overall management of vendors' deliveries.

  • Demonstrated breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability of influence and coach others, influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • Curiosity about technology, the future of work and a passion to augment human capability with technology.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment

The annual pay range for this position is $140,000 -$170,000.

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.

This position is eligible for a performance bonus
