Zurich North America is currently looking for a Head of IT Governance & Program Management to work out of our North American headquarters based in our Schaumburg, IL office. The Head of IT Governance & Program Management leads a diverse team of IT professionals and is responsible for providing strategic leadership/direction to establish governance principles and framework and/or identifying and driving improvement initiatives to increase people and organizational capabilities across the IT function. This position is also responsible for leading strategic IT initiatives through applying structured project and program methodologies to existing processes and increase consistency and successful project implementation across the organization.

The Head of IT Governance and Program Management is responsible for:

  • Working with senior leaders across the organization to identify business improvement opportunities and drive the execution of solutions.

  • Building and maintaining close working relationships with business partners and ensuring alignment to group standards and policies.

  • Deep understanding of where technology initiatives overlap and intersect, collaborating to avoid duplication and identifying best practices that can be utilized to support the wider organization.

  • Developing IT governance model and processes to achieve a flexible, efficient approach continuously improving processes and aligning with group governance to maximize effectiveness.

  • Developing communication and implementation procedures for enterprise and business unit/strategic support unit initiatives and partnering with HRBPs on any people related implications.

  • Planning change management activities that meet the different needs and values of the individual teams across the IT function maximizing impact and minimizing employee resistance.

  • Developing a coordinated strategy and plan to manage the multiple vendors the IT function engages on an ongoing basis.

  • Leading, influencing, diagnosing and developing recommendations to solve complex, enterprise-wide and process-specific ambiguous problems.

  • Ensuring specific metrics and measures are incorporated into solutions enabling continuous improvement.

  • Providing guidance and mentorship to various individuals within the Zurich Project Management, Business Architect, and business improvement communities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12 or more years of experience in the program management or information technology area


  • Experience with performance metrics and measures, customer assessment, cost/benefit analysis, benchmarking, process mapping/simulations, data collection, problem identification

  • In-depth knowledge of tools, concepts, methodologies and techniques of business process reengineering, change management

  • People management experience

  • Experience managing budgets

  • Experience delivering multi-million-dollar programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IT procurement and vendor negotiation experience

  • Experience with Agile & DevOps methodologies, tools and measurement practices

  • Extensive broad-based knowledge of insurance industry including detailed knowledge of insurance business processes

  • Experience managing large teams within a large global organization

Preparation and management of the annual budget

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent verbal, written and group presentation skills

  • Team building and conflict resolution skills

  • Strong ability to resolve complex problems and issues

  • Master's Degree considered a plus

  • Project Management Professional certification

  • CPCU

Strategy: * Operational readiness and market unwind * Develop and maintain business acumen by adapting latest project management technology, processes and talent management techniques using available industry standards * Determine and define Project Management tool requirements and system roadmap, covering current business and future demands including operational and financial aspects * Foster internal and external alliances to successfully carry on SAC business strategies * Support strategic planning including market entry strategy for new markets * Drive key planning issues and recommendations on important business decisions, risks and threats * Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuity of messaging and alignment on objectives. Customer: * Foster relationships and interfaces between SAC team, SAC suppliers and customer to ensure high-performance delivery and timely resolution of issues. * Manage customer relationship at a strategic and tactical level including managing expectations on delivery capabilities and timing of projects. * Lead customer-specific and internal governance meetings managing project portfolio and resolution of issues. Operations: * PPM database ownership * Force model dimensioning * Data engineering and Power BI * Project change management * Establish operational processes / process improvement plans to align with customer's process and tools. * Establish best in class Project Management Processes/ Tools * Establish Project Management Career evolution * Create Tactical Performance Indicators (dashboards) to bring operational and financial visibility to all projects * Conduct/ Guide Project Review meetings * Establish and monitor performance reporting systems * Gatekeeper of project management tool requirements, including new or modifications to project templates and project creation People: * Support the development of organizational structure, people and teams. * Support the development of project management training * Support for development and implement the project management career model in SAC Financial * Ensure division and projects are run profitably, efficiently * Ensure division and projects are executed with strict project controls.
