Waters has established a state of the art lab located at the Science, Technology and Advanced Research Campus of the University of Delaware. A team anchored in Delaware will uncover new trends and opportunities in next generation bioprocess solutions and will have access to the latest technology in small-scale as well as large scale bioreactors and analytical instruments.

Our mission is to tackle the most significant challenges faced by the biopharmaceutical industry through collaborative efforts across academia and industry. We focus on developing cutting-edge technology for the analytical characterization of manufacturing processes related to biologics and novel modalities. Our facility provides an environment where scientists, customers, and collaborators can drive productivity and progress together.

This endeavor will include dynamic collaborations with the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), Universities, and companies worldwide. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of chemists, data scientists, sensory experts, and bioprocess engineers. Your efforts will have a direct impact on new products from Waters.

This role will report to the Global Research Organization at Waters.

Responsibilities

The meaningful work you will be asked to do:

  • Develop and execute Immerse lab's strategic vision in alignment with Waters Corporation's mission to solve large customer challenges in Bioanalytical characterization. • Manage research projects utilizing the lab and personal to its greatest potential. Design and oversee experiments related to bioprocess development, including techniques involving mammalian cell culture, bioreactor cultivations, and analytical operations.• Identify, champion, and develop new scientific ideas whilst advising on existing research and development activities.

    Drive innovation in analytics, consumables, and software critical for bioprocess development.• Mentor and guide researchers, students, and lab staff.• Foster collaboration with academic partners, industry experts, and internal stakeholders to drive impactful research outcomes. Sponsor publicized, regular social events that reach entire relevant student and faculty population.• Create formal networks involving coordination among high profile groups within Waters and significantly influence our Bioprocess strategy. Drive special events (training, product showcase) with commercial sales or R&D collaboration goals.• Collaborate with the University of Delaware to tap into a diverse talent pool, fostering creativity and diversity of thought. • Travel to meet KOLs and engage in local bioprocess and NIMBL events, growing list of potential collaborators and sources of talent. Engage with industry partners, attend conferences, and participate in relevant forums to stay abreast of industry trends.• Represent Immerse Delaware and Waters Corporation in scientific and professional circles.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering with 15+ years of equivalent industry experience in Biochemistry, or a related field

  • Extensive experience in bioprocess development, upstream processing, and analytical techniques.• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage interdisciplinary teams.• Passion for scientific innovation and advancing biopharmaceutical research.• Excellent organizational, collaborative, team leadership and networking skills. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with a demonstrated ability to work on research projects. • Excellent oral and written communication skills and significant evidence of building good working relationships with collaborators, including biologists and/or biomedical researchers. • Travel to our world headquarters in Massachusetts and customer visits are required. Waters is open to relocation for our talent.

Proven practical experience using chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC/MS) methods for Protein Characterization
