Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Head of Global Trade & Customs (GTC), you will be leading and providing oversight to Metrea's global trade customs and transit program globally. You will directly support the domestic and international growth objectives of Metrea and its assigned Business Groups and Business Units.
As a core pillar of GTC, this new role enables future business growth by ensuring full compliance with customs and international transit regulations. You will work cross-functionally and with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance during business execution. You will additionally build relationships with relevant government regulatory agencies.
The successful candidate will have a pragmatic approach to trade and customs compliance, deep subject-matter experience, and demonstrate effective communication at all levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as primary Metrea interface with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Economic Management Division (formerly the Foreign Trade Division) of the Census Bureau (for AES/EEI) issues
Provide strategic vision and pragmatic implementation of Metrea's GTC customs pillar
Oversee import and export declarations considering the reason for the import/export and ensuring compliant duty mitigation
Develop and streamline standard work across the enterprise, such as policies, procedures, work instructions, and training documentation
Provide oversight and support for the logistics functions within the business as it relates to domestic and international shipping procedures, processes, and documentation
Obtain and maintain correct Commodity/Tariff Codes and country of origin data in company systems, including validation of data provided by suppliers, ensuring that all supporting documentation is available for audit purposes. Provide guidance on operational level matters such as harmonized tariff classification
Create visibility and partnership across activities with brokers and freight forwarders, as well as managing performance through regular reviews and assessments. Manage U.S.
customs brokers by maintaining and issuing power of attorneys; negotiating and maintaining Customs brokerage fees (Bids and Contract process); establishing procedures with brokers to ensure Metrea's interests are being met; and monitor Customs Broker compliance measurements.
Oversee Transit (International/Community) processes, including providing guidance on outbound/export customs flow procedures. Monitor changes in Export and Customs regulations and rulings and disseminate important information to business units.
Perform compliance checks with customs and internal requirements
Managing alignment between UK and US Commodity/Tariff Codes and take corrective action to harmonize data
Maintain and update internal records of customs transactions allowing for cross checking of import/export transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance
Support the preparation of customs reporting as required
Lead and support both internal and external audits, inquiries, and investigations of customs activities, including remedial & corrective activities.
Support the development and implementation of effective operational systems and processes (manual and/or digital) relevant to the customs activities
Support staff training and technical instruction where required. Conduct and supervise required training of personnel at locations
Ensure compliance with any preferential trade programs in which Metrea participates
Streamline and oversee Metrea's ACE Account
Work with trade associations to assess impact of customs legislation or activities
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field of study and 6+ years of customs experience
Customs Broker License
Demonstrated proficiency working with U.S. Customs Brokers and export/import regulations, particularly as it relates to defense
Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills
Sound judgment and attention to detail
A team player mentality, with ability to execute both strategically and operationally
The ability to learn quickly, work with minimal supervision, and manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks
Flexibility and willingness to grow in an expanding business
Ability to problem-solve and to work under time-sensitive circumstances
Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented with ability to prioritize and make independent decisions
Preferred qualifications:
8+ years of customs experience
Experience with the ITAR and the EAR
Experience with international customs requirements
Position Location and Expected Hours of Work
Role: Remote or at one of Metrea's locations in Washington, DC; Annapolis Junction, Maryland; Tampa, Florida; Temecula, California; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Some infrequent travel to the other Metrea business locations will be necessary as part of the role. Proximity to Washington, DC is preferred
Full-time, position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require

Travel requirements as necessary to support business requirements
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance - Secret
Must be able to accomplish any and all duties with little or no assistance
Must have good command of the English language, both oral and written
