Job Description

The Head of Business Banking Technology is a leadership position responsible for technology and product delivery across the full suite of U.S.

Bank's small business facing applications and digital experiences. This Software Engineering executive will work as the key technical partner and counterpart of the Chief Product Officer for Business Banking who reports to the Vice Chair for the Consumer and Business Banking (CBB) division.

This Software Engineering Executive exhibits a strong mix of team leadership, technical acumen, strategy, and vision. Builds relationships with senior management to serve as a key partner in designing business strategies and implementing strategic changes across divisions.

Responsible for large, complex technical initiatives. Has a holistic view of the technical products and their business impact to the overall organization. Optimizes and standardizes development practices and processes to align with the overall technology strategy and direction. Cultivates and grows a technical leadership team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Drives technical strategy and engineering delivery for all business banking (small business) technology offerings and application services.

2.Builds relationships, effectively communicates with, and solicits feedback from engineers, managers, and stakeholders. Partners with other technology leaders to stay on the leading edge of industry solutions and remove organizational obstacles.

3.Partners with product leaders to negotiate improvements in the product vision supporting the organization. Develops and leads a product centric engineering culture. Emphasizes accountability, autonomy, quality, and speed of execution.

4.Influences the direction of agile and delivery principles to promote improvement to the delivery process across teams. Champions engineering and operational excellence to ensure the delivery of new features with minimal disruption to customers.

5.Establishes metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement. Leads incident response across the engineering organization as needed.

6.Breaking through obstacles and being a spokesperson who can speak to priorities and has a strong voice articulating the road map. Builds and retains diverse, geographically distributed, high-performing teams. Fosters an organizational culture of empowerment, engineering excellence, and growth.

7.Encourages a culture of mentoring and coaching and serves as a trusted advisor for the engineering department. Shifts technical strategy in recognition of product opportunities.

Identifies technical complexities or limitations that may impact long-term product plans. Brings engineering and security considerations to product and strategic planning discussions.

8.Manages changes in scope, strategy, or business structure across the engineering organization. Recognizes ambiguities in strategy and seeks to provide clarity to leadership team and stakeholders. Guides engineering to identify and frontload risks.

9.Ensures compliance with standards of technical excellence and the organization's security strategy. Delivers highly scalable and reliable applications that meet business budgets/timelines while ensuring alignment to strategic technology vision.



  1. Represents the company externally by building and growing a professional network, speaking at conferences and events, and interacting with other business leaders.

  2. Understands and oversees/manages financial and technological drivers on impacts to revenue, risk, brand, and overall financial strategy. Identifies and manages technical and business risks.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A proven leader with a passion for building high-quality solutions with extensive knowledge of information systems technology and software development processes and tools. Collaborates with the company leadership team on company strategy and initiatives.

Extensive knowledge of the business unit supported as well as the ability to recognize the business impact to the overall organization.

Excellent leadership, software engineering management, tactical planning, vision, and analytical skills. Demonstrated management, leadership and interpersonal skills with sound judgement, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to drive decisions through consensus and influence. Proven experience successfully integrating teams.

Analyzes the overarching company goals and strategy and guides the small business team on thinking across the entire platform. Drives the team and leadership to make changes proactively to optimize processes, architecture, and organization.

Manages under broad direction and objectives to successfully achieve organization-wide commitments, their progress, and roadmap to delivery. Leads strategic organizational decisions/plans and has a thorough understanding of the entire business, including individual domains and how they contribute to the overall business and technical strategy.

Is accountable for defining business impact around primary domain with the demonstrated ability to lead successful initiatives. True driver of change as a key component to a product organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant field.

  • 15 or more years of combined relevant leadership experience in organizational goal setting, with strategic and technical experience.

  • Working in a Product Model environment is a plus.

  • The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role.

In addition to salary, U.S.

Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $208,505.00 - $245,300.00 - $269,830.00
