HOURS: 1.5 - 2 Hours Per Day (4:00pm

  • 5:30/6:00pm)

Job Purpose Statement/s: The position of Head Coach is for the purpose of organizing and conducting the athletic program to meet the needs of the participants, by providing them worthwhile learning experiences.

Essential Job Functions:
Exhibit exceptional integrity and character at all times.
Act as a positive role model in the school and community.
Cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants.
Actively recruit students within the school to participate in the program.
Collaborate with and follow direction of the Athletic Director.
Organize the specific athletic program so that it is consistent with the District, Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) (as applicable), and Mt. Hood Conference objectives for student/athletes.
Adhere to all interscholastic policies, rules, and procedures, working within the confines of the rules and by-laws of the OSAA, Mt. Hood Conference, and Board Policies.
Manage all aspects of the secondary program, at all levels, including practice schedules and routines.
Determine the system of play to be used.
Develop and implement an off-season program for athletes.
Support the academic achievement of student/athletes.
Oversee the assistant coaches that contribute in the secondary athletic program.
Actively participate in and support the youth program that feeds the secondary program.
Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities of student/athletes including, but not limited to, games, practice, locker room, and transportation.
Meet with the players and parents prior to or at the beginning of the season to cover all participation expectations.
Commit to continued professional development and improvement of the knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundaments, game strategy, and the rules of the sport.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director to arrange for transportation and finances for contests.
Accountable for expenditures and fundraising in accordance with established District procedures and follow written approval of the Athletic Director and/or principal.
Follow current District procedures for handling of the program finances.
Responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of District equipment and supplies.
Communicate with athletes in a manner that models respect. Refrain from using profanity or derogatory language at participants, officials, parents, or others associated with the program.
Report participant injuries to the trainer following current District procedures.
Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, athletes, parents, and assistant coaches throughout the program.
Support the Athletic Director in recommending assistant coaches for hire while meeting District Standard Operating Procedures for hiring.
Attend all meetings as required by the Athletic Director, principal, or league leadership.
Assume responsibility for the conduct and performance of program assistant coaches.
Report any behavior that endangers the physical, emotional, or mental safety of anyone in the program to the Athletic Director within 24 hours.
Other Job Functions:
Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons.
Advocate for multi-sport athletes.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    Experience Preferred: Prior experience in coaching with increasing levels of responsibility. Knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, and student supervision.
    Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
    Skills to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes with student/athletes, parents, assistant coaches, and other school staff. Strong leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, student supervision, and District policies.

Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perceptions/accommodation/field of vision.

Ability to speak a second language preferred.
Licensed, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:Must have or be able to obtain OSAA Certifications, including but not limited to:
National Federation High School Fundamentals of Coaching
Anabolic Steroids & Performance-Enhancing Substances
Concussion Recognition and Management
Heat Illness Prevention
Racial Equity Training
Interrupting & Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant agrees to assume cost upon offer of employment)

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Extra Duty Personnel.
