JOB GOALS/OBJECTIVES: Within the framework of the entire athletic program, provides leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of his coaching area through coordination, planning, evaluation, and implementation of programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the coordination of all programs (7-12).

• Plans and administers staff responsibilities, staff plans, seasonal plans, and scouting duties if applicable.

• Maintains liaison and active participation with other community activities, i.e., recreation.

• Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assignment of the coaching staff.

• Assists in the ongoing evaluation of the coaching staff.

• Must have a good knowledge of the sport he/she is coaching. Experience playing, coaching, or acting as a referee is valuable for the position of a head coach.

• Oversees the safety conditions of the facility and activities in which assigned sports are conducted whenever students are present.

• Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.

• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

• During Season:

• Implement Athletic Standards as outlined in the Athletic Handbook.

• Provide information for transportation, officials and game management.

• Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.

• Follow carefully the procedure for initiating purchase orders.

• Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams in his program.

• Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the idea of developing the Athlete's greatest potential.

• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and other paperwork as required.

• Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner as outlined in the Athletic Handbook.

• See that building regulations are understood and enforced.

• Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury procedures.

• Conduct himself and his teams in an ethical manner during practice and contests.

• Must have a good relationship with their team while still remaining the leader.

• Report a summary of all contests and provide any publicity information that would aid his program and his athletes.

• Instruct his players concerning rules and rule changes, new knowledge, and innovative ideas and techniques.

• Promote off-season training programs (strength & conditioning)

• End of Season

• Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold the athlete responsible for all equipment not returned.

• Arrange for the issuance of letters and special awards.

• Arrange of cleaning, sorting, and inventory of all equipment.

• Be concerned with the care and maintenance of his facility.

• Recommend concerning equipment needed to be purchased or repaired.

• Maintain records of the team and individual accomplishments.
