TITLE: Head Custodian- 1st shift (6:30am- 3pm) - Bishop ES (25-26 School Yr)
JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator or Coordinator, Custodial Services
DEPARTMENT: Business Operations
POSITION SUMMARY: To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
- Five years experience in custodial and maintenance field.
- A proficiency in general repair, painting, cleaning, and operating of cleaning equipment.
- A working knowledge of heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems.
- A neat appearance.
- Three years of successful supervisory experience.
- An ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Schedules and trains members of his custodial staff.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
- Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA].
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
- Monitors the time records of all custodial employees in the school and certifies them for salary payments.
- Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment.
- Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.
- Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
- Establishes schedules for routine inspection and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, including at least one building check every twelve hours during the heating season.
- Establishes schedules for routine safety inspections of play ground equipment, bleachers, steps, halls and all parts of the building and grounds.
- Keeps principal and maintenance supervisor informed of maintenance concerns.
- Checks routinely for events scheduled in building, and assigns appropriate personnel.
- When applicable, assists custodians in cleaning building.
- Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
- Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 days (250 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays and salary as determined by Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board.
SALARY: $24.08/HR. - $28.50/HR.
