Job Objective: Oversee COVID 19 related food services for the food services department, ordering and food/employee safety in the dining hall & kitchen.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop menus and recipes for food service department

  • Supervise and assist in preparation of all meals according to menus developed

  • Train kitchen staff or volunteers in food preparation and presentation

  • Record food used in meal preparation on inventory sheets

  • Prepare leftover food for storage and later use

  • Set up serving line and see that it is supplied with plates, utensils, and food. See that serving line runs smoothly

  • Keep food service areas clean and neat, observing sanitary regulations

  • Properly place pots, pans, and other cooking utensils through the dishwasher. Put supplies away when dry

  • Meet with vendors and order food and supplies

  • Oversee Food Services Department and follow all City, County and State Health Department policies and procedures

  • Assist in passing the mandatory food inspections

  • Coordinate food catering from other locations

  • Pick up catered food from outside locations using a Salvation Army vehicle

  • Deliver prepared food to locations throughout camp when needed

  • Be aware of and follow all Three Trails Camp policies and procedures

  • Be in attendance at all staff meetings

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School or GED Diploma preferred. Culinary Arts schooling preferred.

Experience: Experience in mass feeding, food ordering and food safety.

Certifications/Licenses: State issued drivers license required. Must have or obtain Independence MO, Health Department Food Service Certificate or certification from approved city or program. May be required to obtain Food Managers Certification.


  • Ability to work independently, open/close the kitchen and work on a set schedule

  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold

Travel: Travel to the grocery store for food pickups 1-3 times per week. Pick up of catered food using Salvation Army vehicle.

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved and maintain approval through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: Education: Assist and support the Head Start Education Manager in providing professional development to staff. Under the guidance of the Head Start Education Manager, coach teachers based on feedback from classroom observations to comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards. Develop individualized plans with educators that includes goals related to improving outcomes for all children. Help educators identify steps for achieving goals along with a timeline and the persons responsible for each step. Implement identified strategies according to agreed-upon timelines. Schedule, plan, and facilitate onsite visits and coaching sessions. Support coaching teams in development of project-based learning. Conduct regular classroom observations ensuring fidelity to curriculum and best practices. Ensure that classroom environments and daily routines are appropriate for young children. Assist the Head Start Education Manager with the required assessment process providing teachers ongoing assistance as needed. Assist the Head Start Education Manager in assessing the professional development needs based upon observations and assessment of educators, review of outcomes information, and training surveys completed by educators. Submit verbal/written reports to Head Start Education Manager on the status of education at the individual center a minimum of twice a month. Collaborate as a member of the Head Start Educational Support Team, including staff working in the areas of health, mental health and disabilities, and family services as needed. Utilize technology to record data and reports, as well as record videos of teaching practices, and teaching examples, if applicable. Maker Space Responsibilities Along with Head Start Education Manager, create sample provocations that teaching teams can use in the Maker Spaces that will allow them to go in depth into the areas of science, art, math, technology, engineering, and light and sensory experiences. With Head Start Education Manager, determine what materials are needed to keep the Maker Spaces inviting and challenging for children and teachers. Model for teaching teams how to introduce new skills and knowledge in the Maker Spaces, explore with tools and materials to refine those areas, and scaffold learning based on feedback and reflection. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Early Education or related field required. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Early Education required.
