Pierce College is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach for Women's Soccer. This position reports to the Director of Athletics for the Pierce College District and works with campus departments, and athletic commissioners to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in areas including, but not limited to; preparing student athletes for competition, recruiting, letters of intent, eligibility, contest scheduling and travel planning, and budget management and fundraising.

  • Conduct the Women's Soccer program in accordance with the established rules and regulations of Pierce College, the NWAC, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

  • Teach individual and team skills and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork and positive team culture; develop and enforce training and conduct rules.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all eligibility rules and assist the athletic department staff with assuring that all student-athletes are aware of the rules, and that all appropriate information regarding eligibility is shared with the Director of Athletics.

  • Recruit quality student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations of the college and the NWAC.

  • Promote a positive environment for learning and development that supports the goals and objectives of the department's Academic Success Program, and assists student-athletes with achieving their academic goals.

  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics for assistant coaches' selections and establish individual responsibilities of the coaching staff.

  • Assist with the development of a competitive contest schedule, and a comprehensive practice and conditioning plan.

  • Assist athletic department management personnel with all preparations for event support, for hosting home contests.

  • Assist with the planning for all team travel in conjunction with athletic department staff, to include the safe transport of team members to all away contests.

  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics regarding the offering of letters of intent and determining financial awards.

  • Provide comprehensive instruction regarding individual skill development and race strategies specific to the sport of soccer.

  • Make recommendations for the purchase of uniforms and equipment, following the college's purchasing procedures.  Maintain inventory control for all team equipment.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan to support women's soccer and the athletic department.

  • Ensure timely submission of all contest results and statistics.

  • Attend all required department staff and planning meetings, and all associated Regional and NWAC coaches meetings.

Required Education:

  • Associate of Arts degree or equivalent experience required.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated coaching experience in the sport of soccer with a minimum of two (2) years coaching at the high school, advanced club, or college level.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Washington State river's license, with proof of insurability upon hire.

  • Ability to successfully complete the State of Washington's Van Driver Certification test.

  • Ability to successfully complete the NWAC Coaches Certification within one month of hire.

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within three (3) months of hire.

  • Ability to attend practices and games on weekday afternoons and evenings and on weekends.

Required Competencies: Knowledge, skills, abilities, traits and characteristics

  • Demonstrated understanding of intercollegiate soccer rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of NWAC and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Current unrestricted Washington State driver's license, with proof of insurability

  • Commitment to a philosophy promoting academic and student success

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Terms of Employment:

This position is part-time and non-tenurable, and is evaluated for renewal annually.  The official soccer season begins in the Fall, with practice beginning August 1, through the conference championship in mid-November. Recruitment of prospective students-athletes, fundraising activities and other related duties continue throughout the year. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Puyallup campus. Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses and/or sites may occur. Work hours are typically between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekend work, and occasional travel as required. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

Salary: $11,000.00 annual stipend (depending on experience and education). This position is eligible for annual incremental increases.

Physical Work Environment:

This position is required to work indoor and outdoor during inclement weather conditions. This position operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
