The head coach for SUNY Cortland's women's golf team is responsible for all aspects of the program, including practice preparation, skill instruction, on-court coaching, player development, recruiting, budget management, team travel, scheduling, academic success, and student-athlete welfare. This position also includes serving as the Athletic Departments' Academic Coordinator. The Academic Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and assisting at-risk student athletes academically for all 25 varsity programs, which will assist in retention for intercollegiate athletics. This is a 10-month position that will also be required to teach 2 credits for the Physical Education Department.

Major Responsibilities

Head Coach 40%

  • Oversee all matters pertaining to the total operation of the sport of Women's Golf.

  • Direct, encourage, and motivate athletes to prepare them for competitions.

  • Plan strategies and choose team members for each competition.

  • Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions.

  • Recruit an adequate number of student athletes with sufficient skill to maintain the quality of the program, and in accordance with applicable rules and regulations

  • Assess academic performance of student athletes at least once each semester to support student retention.

  • Maintain or build the sport program that is competitive at the conference level.

  • Administer the individual sport team budget throughout the academic year. Ensure that monies are appropriately spent and documented.

  • Ensure all sport specific equipment and uniforms are issued at the beginning of the season, maintained throughout the season, inventoried, and collected by the end of the season.

  • Ensure all athletic department forms are completed accurately and in a timely fashion.

  • Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and adhere to the Department of Athletics' policies and procedures.

  • Represent the University in a professional and ethical manner.

  • Commit to continued growth and development in sport as demonstrated by continuing education, participation in professional organizations, enrollment in training programs, and research.

  • Supervise facilities including the weight and golf room.

Teaching 10%

  • Teach 2 credits for the Physical Education Department.

Academic Coordinator 50%

  • Provide time management and study skill tutoring, along with comprehensive academic advising to student-athletes.

  • Conduct proactive mentoring with identified at-risk student-athletes and monitor their progress.

  • Plan and conduct student-athlete orientation sessions; facilitate and recommend tutoring for students.

  • Prepare periodic reports of student-athlete academic progress.

  • Communicate regularly with colleagues of all academic units to monitor and evaluate each student-athlete's academic standing, progress towards degree completion and to ensure compliance with eligibility requirements.

  • Refer students to the Academic Support and Achievement Program (ASAP) for tutoring and supplemental instruction when needed.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

  • This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree

  • Experience coaching golf

  • Valid Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree.

  • Experience coaching golf at the colligate level.

  • Experience with academic tutoring or related area.
