Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Organizes and implements a well-disciplined, competitive and comprehensive Intercollegiate Athletics sports program that abides by all local, state, federal, and specialized mandates, including NCAA, Big West Conference, and University rules, policies, and regulations. Maintains assigned sports program within the operating budget established for said program.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Experience coordinating and making travel arrangements for small and large groups.
Minimum of two years of coaching basketball at the D-1, D-2, or D-3 or Junior College level.
Excellent communication, organizational, teaching, interpersonal and supervisory skills are essential in the event areas of basketball.
Demonstrated leadership ability and successful coaching experience.
Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written, and electronic forms.
Experience in program planning and teaching.
Ability to teach sound fundamentals of the sport.
Ability to recruit highly successful student athletes.
Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules, policies, Constitution and Bylaws.
Understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics within the overall academic mission of the University.
Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students, and members of the community.
Strong motivation skills.
Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference, and NCAA regulations.
Thorough knowledge of the rules for Collegiate Basketball.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds and project a professional attitude.
Ability and willingness to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department.
Must maintain NCAA certified recruiter status.
Must maintain CPR / AED and First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two to five years of experience coaching at the Division I level.
Experience and demonstrated ability in recruiting quality student-athletes.
Knowledge:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Espresso Suite, Gateway, email and calendaring software.
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA, Big West Conference, and University policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to the performance of the position.
Thorough knowledge of the rules for Collegiate Basketball.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
Exceptional skills in customer service and the ability to work with a variety of constituents and in a diverse environment.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Abilities:
Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in responding to issues and concerns and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and be flexible while performing a wide range of tasks concurrently and effectively.
Ability to interpret and local and system-wide policies and procedures.
Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize with multiple and demanding deadlines.
Ability to work under pressure in a team atmosphere and independently involving deadlines, periodic heavy work cycles and high volume while maintaining extreme attention to detail.
