Longwood University invites applications for the position of Head Coach, Men's Baseball (GA206). The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing, recruiting, and/or educating student athletes in the sport of baseball and the responsibilities of serving as an ambassador for Longwood University. This includes informing student athletes of their role as a Longwood Citizen Leader, as well as the necessary rules and regulations to compete within the University, NCAA, and Big South Conference.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Leadership
  • Must demonstrate the characteristics and qualities of a successful leader. Must demonstrate ability to build and sustain a winning culture.
  • Coaching knowledge and technique
  • Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge base in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles. Must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions.
  • Recruiting - scout, identify, and recommend student athletes in such a manner that encourages diversity, while maintaining a competitive team.

  • Fiscal responsibility - ensure the Baseball Program and its staff execute their professional duties in a fiscally responsible manner in compliance with NCAA, Commonwealth of VA laws, Longwood University and the Athletics Department policies and procedures.

  • Academic success of student athletes - monitor the academic progress of student athletes and assist in ensuring academic success while collaborating with Academic Services.

  • Rules compliance - manages the baseball program in full compliance with NCAA and Big South Conference rules and regulations, Commonwealth of VA laws, Longwood University and the Athletics Department policies and procedures.

  • Community and university involvement - perform public relations functions promoting Longwood athletes in a positive manner to the media, alumni, and community. Work collaboratively with University Advancement to cultivate and promote donor relations to ensure the fund-raising efforts are successful.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's Degree preferred, or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and work experience in higher education setting.

  • Work experience at an NCAA Division I University is preferred with a minimum of three to five years or more of coaching baseball, or equivalent experience at the professional level.

  • Knowledgeable of camp and clinic development programs.

  • Ability to schedule future games with opposing teams.

  • Demonstrated skill in teaching, coaching, and mentoring others.

  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of baseball.

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
