Overview: The Middle School Head Coach is responsible for developing and overseeing athletic programs for middle school students (grades 6-8). This role involves fostering a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. The Middle School Head Coach will design and implement training programs, manage team activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes. Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Management:
Develop and implement age-appropriate athletic programs and activities that put kids first by providing necessary resources for success.
Coordinate and oversee all practices, games, and competitions for middle school sports teams.
Establish goals for the athletic program in alignment with the school's mission and values, ensuring inclusivity and diversity.
Coaching and Training:
Provide coaching that emphasizes fundamental skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and inclusivity.
Plan and conduct training sessions that cater to the developmental needs of middle school athletes.
Monitor the progress and performance of individual athletes and teams, ensuring equitable opportunities for all.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all activities comply with school policies and safety regulations.
Maintain proper records of safety protocols and conduct regular safety drills.
Oversee the health and safety of student-athletes, including first aid and emergency response procedures.
Team Building and Leadership:
Foster a positive team culture that encourages participation, personal development, and values diversity.
Develop leadership skills among student-athletes and support their academic growth.
Address and resolve any conflicts or issues within the team, ensuring an inclusive environment.
Communication and Collaboration:
Act as the primary contact for parents, students, and school staff regarding the athletic program.
Communicate schedules, program updates, and team expectations clearly and effectively.
Collaborate with other coaches and staff to integrate athletics with the overall educational experience, empowering the community.
Budget and Resource Management:
Manage the team's athletic accounts and resources efficiently.
Oversee the maintenance and use of athletic equipment and facilities.
Assist in fundraising activities to support the athletic program, ensuring equitable resource distribution.
Professional Development:
Stay informed about best practices and trends in middle school athletics.
Attend workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance coaching skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years of coaching experience with middle school students is preferred.
Strong understanding of developmental needs of middle school athletes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Certification in first aid and CPR, as well as any certifications required by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.
Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and equitable athletic environment.
Work Environment: The Middle School Head Coach will work in a school setting, involving both indoor and outdoor activities. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, is required to accommodate practices, games, and events.
Terms of Employment
Salary commensurate with the Governing Board approved coaching salary schedule.
Hours per day as determined by the specific assignment.
