Description
The Iona University Cheer Team Coach is the primary creative and supervisory leader of the Iona University Cheer Team. The coach will teach, oversee, and direct practices and game day performances of the Cheer Team. Working in conjunction with the Director of Performing Arts, the coach will contribute to the creation of an entertaining and premier-level collegiate atmosphere for Iona University's men's and women's basketball home games. Moreover, the cheer coach will be the point person for Iona competitive cheer efforts, including UCA nationals. The cheer coach will support the admissions and retention goals of the University through various recruitment and relational activities designed to increase engagement of the student and the University.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead Iona University Cheer Team through all aspects as coach, including: choreography, music selection, technical instruction, and other essential elements of the cheerleading team
Attend and oversee the cheer team performing at Iona University men's & women's basketball home games and designated neutral-site and post season games. (approximately 25-30 games)
Maintain overall team membership goals and gameday participation
Schedule, organize, and conduct weekly practices
Manage cheer team budget and coordinate student fundraising efforts
Facilitate team participation at UCA camps and competitions, including UCA National Championships
Plan and organize choreography, registration, and travel logistics for UCA Collegiate Nationals
Conduct tryouts to select new cheerleading team members
Assist with enrollment, engagement, and retention initiatives
Manage cheer team appearance requests both on-campus and within the community
Positively represent Iona University, the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, and Performing Arts
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Requirements
Prior experience coaching collegiate or high school-level cheer teams
Ability to attend men's and women's basketball home games
Familiarity with Iona University, NCAA, MAAC, and UCA rules and regulations
Current USA Cheer coaching certification
Valid Driver's license
Ability to lift 100 pounds
