Primary Function

The Connecticut Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) seeks a Head Carpenter to oversee all aspects of stage operations for all events at the Shubert Theatre main stage, located in New Haven, Connecticut. This is an hourly, as-needed position covered under the IATSE Local No. 74 collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Health and pension benefits will be administered as outlined in the CBA through IATSE.

Duties and Responsibilities

Non-performance responsibilities:

  • Oversee set-up needs for stage

  • Maintain CAPA/Shubert equipment, to include yearly inventory of all equipment

  • Overseeing receiving deliveries related to stage operations and events

  • Work with Director of Operations and Operations Production Manager as well as outside user groups to prepare for upcoming events, including appropriate staffing levels, work hours, and equipments needs

  • Provides cost and personnel estimates when requested by the Director of Operations.

  • Work with the Director of Operations to establish and implement Facility Fund budget as it relates to the needs of the Shubert Theatre stage.

  • Review, approve, and submit payroll for stagehands in a timely manner

  • Provide positive working relations with outside rental users and building staff

  • Serve as a member of the theatres safety committee

  • Coordinate with Director of Operations and /or the Operations Production Manager crew call times for load ins, box calls and load outs in a timely manner

  • Monthly or meetings as needed with the Director of Operations to discuss future events and other department needs

Event responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight of all stage operations.

  • Advances shows as needed in coordination with the Director of Operations and the Operations Production Manager.

  • Responsible for the procurement and distribution of the IATSE labor force for Shubert events.

  • Organizes the production load-in and load-out, and directs stage personnel in their work.

  • Works with Director of Operations and artist management to coordinate performance.

  • Communicates with users of the stage about their needs and expectations.

  • Maintains a safe working environment for staff and users of the stage, including adhering to safety rules from management and regulatory agencies.

  • Works with security to provide a safe environment for all guests and staff.

  • Provides event cost including stage personnel and equipment to CAPA staff for settlement in a timely manner.

  • Coordinates with the Director of Operations and /or the Operations Production Manager any needs regarding added crew meals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform moderate lifting.

  • Must be able to climb and be comfortable in high places.

  • Working knowledge of rigging for event presentations.

  • Well-rounded understanding of carpentry, electrics, and sound to be able to monitor all facets of event production.

  • Must be able to read and comprehend contract riders for various types of events.

  • Ability to problem solve, including diplomatic resolution of situations that sometimes arise for the users of the theatre.

  • Strong computer skills including working with Outlook, Word, Excel, CAD files.

Credentials and Experience

  • Ten years supervisory experience directing stage personnel and operations of various genres in a road house or related experience with large scale productions.

  • Ten years experience in stage carpentry, rigging and theatrical stage work.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to work day, evenings, weekends and holidays when theatre activity requires.

  • Member of IATSE or willing to join IATSE Local 74.

EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Summary: The primary functions of the Nurse Practitioner will be to provide comprehensive care to the patients and consultation service to the patients direct care team under the supervision of the Attendings., and as directed by established protocols. In collaboration with the Health care team, the Nurse Practitioner will provide continuity of care to patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings to achieve optimal patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. For this specific position, rotation of coverage will be required in New Haven and Bridgeport. Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Practice: 1.1. Assumes primary patient care responsibility for patients in a specific program under the supervision of the Attendings. 1.2. Identifies health care needs and assesses health status of patient/family during inpatient hospitalization and subsequent outpatient care follow-up if appropriate. Monitors patients across the health care continuum and develops strategies to avoid hospitalization and/or decrease length of stay. 1.3. Prescreens patients, obtains comprehensive health complete histories, and performs complete physical exams during treatment hospitalization and in visits. 1.4. Identifies and collaborates with the specialty interdisciplinary team in the design of patient treatment plans. 1.5. Communicates patient status information, attends daily rounds, and documents progress in the Medical Record. 1.6. Enters admission orders, orders appropriate tests and therapy; interprets results and outcomes; discusses appropriate interventions with the physicians. 1.7. In collaboration with the Health care team, provides continuity of care to patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings to achieve optimal patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. 1.8. Educates patients about treatment plans and discharge care. 1.9. Performs advanced technological procedures related to specialty, as defined by standardized procedures. 1.10. May assist with procedures in the operating room. 1.11. Evaluates the patient with regard to discharge status. Performs discharge exams and completes paperwork, and discharge dictation. Communicates patient's treatment plans to referring physicians. 2. Education: 2.1. Identifies learning needs of team members, patients and families. Provides bedside teaching and supervision of procedures. 2.2. Acts as a clinical resource for residents and fellows, and as a role model/preceptor for nurses and advanced practice nursing students. Maximizes opportunities in the clinical setting for informal education of staff, patients, and families. 2.3. Lectures at conferences and seminars for health care professionals. 3. Research: 3.1. May support the research mission through collaboration with investigators and protocol personnel. 3.2. May promote research utilization through the dissemination of existing and new research findings in the clinical practice setting. 3.3. May promote specialty clinical trials, both in-house and through cooperative groups. Other information: EDUCATION: MSN required. Graduate of Nurse Practitioner Program. Current Connecticut APRN license (or eligible). EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred. SPECIAL_SKILLS: Excellent basic knowledge with clinical skills and judgment. Possess analytical skills to evaluate care needs, ability to gather relevant clinical date, perform through physical examinations, and possess excellent interpersonal skills, communication and leadership activities and exhibit good judgment and tact dealing with patients, families, and allied health professionals.
