QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification Required:

  • Valid teaching certificate appropriate for level and assignment.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

  • CDL License (If not secured by start date, must be obtained within 6 months)

  • Must be willing to coach 2 sports (Tennis and Golf are considered 2 sports)

Technology Proficiency: Level 2 Applied

  • Applied use of computer operations

  • Applied use of software productivity tools (i.e., Microsoft Office)

  • Applied use of e-mail

  • Applied use of printers

  • Applied use of job-related financial and student management systems

  • Applied use of multimedia tools

  • Applied use of electronic file management

  • Ability to manipulate tools/equipment keyboards

  • Applied use of Technology Applications TEKS

  • CCISD Acceptable Use Policy and Technology Ethics/Etiquette

Experience:

  • Preference will be given for experience as a high school head coach or for college coaching experience.

FUNCTION:

To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. To provide students an opportunity to participate in an extra-curricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sports, and the principles of fair play.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Assumes full responsibility as charged by the director of athletics, athletic coordinator and subjects to their direction for developing and directing sports program in the high school.

  • Assists in developing and directing a comprehensive program of athletics at the secondary level. Consults with the principal, athletic coordinator, and director of athletics in the organization of the program; plans meetings and conferences to coordinate the activities of all coaches in the program.

  • Serves as a cooperative and loyal member of the coaching staff and provides leadership to every part of the athletic program as well as to the total school program.

  • Is responsible for administering policies in relation to athletic awards. Submits list of names of athletes recommended for athletic awards.

  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date records of expenditures and budget balance.

  • Assists the principal, high school athletic coordinator and director of athletics in preparing and maintaining athletic policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates loyalty to the administration and supports its policies and decisions.

  • Supports and complies with Board Policy, Administrative Regulations and Directives.

  • Submits and completes required athletic reports on time to athletic coordinator and office of athletics.

  • Is responsible for assisting the principal/high school athletic coordinator and the Office for Athletics in the assignment and evaluation of coaches within their staff.

  • Is responsible for maintaining all paperwork regarding the athletes (physical, parent permission forms, steroid signed forms and insurance record) which must be in order before athlete can participate in practice etc . (Must carry to all out-of-town meets/tournaments - parent authorization forms and insurance claim forms for medical attention of athletes in case of emergency.)

  • Is responsible for maintaining good working relationships with parents, boosters, athletes, teachers and staff.

  • Encourages players to participate in every sport in which they have interest and ability.

  • Attends meetings with the high school athletic coordinator to stay current on directives, transportation, and maintenance issues etc. Meetings at the Office of Athletics will be called as needed.

  • Communicates concerns and/or problems that arise concerning all aspects of athletic program in keeping with the chain of command. Works to provide input for possible solutions and/or improvements to athletic program.

  • Prepares and keeps current a detailed inventory of all equipment, fixtures and properties of the program.

  • Liaison member to Booster Club

  • Maintain a good professional relationship with coaches from other schools.

  • Be willing to spend extra time in meeting with principal, athletic coordinator or athletic director to insure proper preparation for coaching assignment. (This may require some weekend or normal vacation-time work) .

  • Be responsible for encouraging athletes to perform well in academic areas.

  • To perform well in academic assignment area and realize that coaches are a vital part of the school faculty and have the same responsibility as any other teacher in their assigned academic area.

  • Accept criticism that is designed to bring about positive performance.

  • Participates in parent's night, banquets, award assemblies and pep rallies.

  • Is responsible for retrieving equipment from athletes.

  • Is responsible for knowledge of all UIL rules and regulations; attending meetings necessary to implement the UIL rules; and for turning in the eligibility list to the principal, DEC, and school district athletic office BEFORE the beginning of the season.

  • Assumes responsibility for the well-being of all athletes under his/her supervision, and cooperates with the athletic trainer and/or team doctor in treatment of athletic injuries.

  • Consistently enforces individual and team discipline as outlined in athletic code.

  • Is responsible for the approval of players to be scheduled in the athletic periods and be responsible for recommending the transfer of student(s) out of the athletic program.

  • Is responsible for the behavior of athletes and coaches during practice and game situations. Assures that coaches and players use no physical abuse, verbal abuse and/or inappropriate language.

  • Is responsible for inputting bus requisitions at the beginning of the season.

  • Is responsible for turning in student travel requisitions prior to the season and reconciling the paperwork within 5 days of the trip with complete and proper paperwork.

  • Is responsible for proper care and maintenance of athletic equipment.

  • Assumes the responsibility for training of coaches within their program at the secondary level. This responsibility shall include the teaching of formations, terminology, basic drills, scouting procedures and organization of practice schedule.

  • Assumes responsibility for the general management and safety of athletic fields, dressing rooms and gymnasiums.

  • Is responsible for developing a well-coached team that can compete favorably with teams scheduled.

  • Assumes sole responsibility for selection of team members and technical coaching of the team.

  • Develops and utilizes a well-organized practice schedule that allows maximum team and individual instruction opportunities.

  • Is responsible for securing officials, meet visiting teams and supply their needs, and take care of any other requirements for orderly athletic performances at all games/meets/matches.

  • Has the ability to perform under game conditions. Demonstrates poise, decisiveness and the ability to utilize personnel wisely.

  • Displays enthusiasm and initiative in execution of job responsibilities.

  • Is responsible for making sure students are engaged in learning during the athletic period.

  • Responsible for continued growth in the number of athletes in the program.

  • Is responsible for representing the school and school district in a professional manner by attending faculty/coaches meetings, Staff development workshops; parent conferences, community/school functions, and dressing appropriately for work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, high school athletic coordinator and/or Office of Athletics.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assistant coaches in respective sport.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; coordinate district functions and maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Frequent district and statewide travel; Continual walking and standing; moderate lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Works outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside.
