Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Head Baseball Coach.

Manage and administer all phases of the Division 1 Baseball program, within the guidelines, rules and regulation of the University, OVC, and the NCAA.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, as allowed.

  • Coach team during scheduled events.

  • Determine and implement the strategies necessary to motivate the players to maximum levels of individual and team performance.

  • Conduct coaches' preparatory meetings and teaching procedures for the assistant coaching staff.

  • Develop comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport, and actively seek development of new performance methods and strategies.

  • Responsible for searching, selecting, and training qualified assistant coaches with the approval of the Director of Athletics, and in accordance with all University personnel and affirmative action programs and procedures.

  • Direct and manage assistant coaches. Delegate and prioritize administrative responsibilities.

  • Maintain a thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, OVC, and departmental rules and regulations.

  • Cooperate with Associate Director of Athletics in seeking that all staff members are familiar with and in compliance with all rules and regulations governing conduct.

  • Responsible for overseeing and administration of the sport's budget.

  • Arrange for all the team's travel needs for practice and competition in conjunction with Senior Administrative Assistant.

  • Scout and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinate recruiting activities by working with faculty and University staff to assist in the recruiting process.

  • Demonstrate an active interest in the academic progress of student-athletes.

  • Work closely with Associate Director of Athletics, Faculty Athletic Representative, and the Academic Advising Centers staff to prevent academic eligibility problems.

  • Work closely with the athletic training staff and Team Physician to provide for the safety and health of student-athletes.

  • Provide individual mentoring to student-athletes, and when necessary, direct the student-athlete to seek professional guidance.

  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations regarding student conduct, appearance, and behavior.

  • Assist in requirements for class attendance and make-up coursework.

  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward all sports sponsored by the intercollegiate athletics program.

  • Assists with fundraising in coordination with Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Varsity Club.

  • Implement fundraising programs to assist growth of team's budget.

  • Participate in the University's public relations activities, including print, television and radio interviews, and news conferences.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in related area.

  • Experience in recruiting and retaining student-athletes at a collegiate level.

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, management, administrative and communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to communicate and relate well to student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and the community.

  • Must have valid driver's license.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Master's degree.

  • Three to five years of previous collegiate coaching experience.

  • Experience in overseeing and administering a sport's budget.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

  • Normal University Operating Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Prolonged and irregular hours are necessary to meet coaching and administrative responsibilities.

  • Extensive travel is required for recruiting and during sport season to meet travel schedule
