Job Summary

  • Recruit quality players and establish tryouts for team selection

  • Determine practice schedule and content

  • Submit squad list for eligibility check

  • Monitor academic progress of team members

  • Establish team rules, behavior guidelines and expectations

  • Recommend athletic financial aid awards and letter award recipients

  • Recommend appropriate opponents, desirable dates/times, source for officials and other game personnel, travel arrangements (vehicles, meals, lodging)

  • Determine supply and gear needs; recommend uniform replacement needs; and monitor equipment and gear security

  • Serve as an instructor for HPER classes for the School of Education

  • Serve as an assistant to the Director of Athletics and assist in the overall administration of the athletic department

  • Conduct development activities under the direction of the Director of Athletics which provide financial resources

  • Assume temporary administrative roles as required by department

  • Participate in departmental meetings as scheduled

  • Propose suggestions and assist in evaluation and formulation of departmental policies

  • Create positive publications for athletic programs and total campus

  • Hire and supervise assistant coach(s)

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a budget for the baseball program

Policies and Procedures:

  • Be familiar with and demonstrate the ability to understand all NCAA bylaws, Summit League regulations, and Purdue Fort Wayne academic policies and procedures

  • Develop, implement and communicate departmental policies and procedures that reflect said rules

  • Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.1, violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations

  • Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.2, a written detailed account annually to the Chancellor for all athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution is required. All such requests must be approved ty the Chancellor.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Four- to five years successful coaching at the Division I level and extensive recruiting experience

  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules, strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Record of integrity and leadership to advance the goals of the Purdue Fort Wayne Department of Athletics including fundraising and a commitment to the academic success and graduation of student-athletes

  • Ability to effectively relate to diverse constituents including students, student-athletes, faculty and general public

  • Strong supervisory and public relations skills

  • Must have the ability to develop and implement a successful recruitment program and be able to demonstrate leadership and coaching skills

  • Must be able to organize and instruct health, physical education and recreation (HPER) courses

  • Must have a valid driver's license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Policy

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Indiana high school baseball programs
