Head Athletic Trainer - Roger Williams University

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of an intercollegiate athletic training program. The Head Athletic Trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.

Training

• Develop overall sports medicine program for the University, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.

• Provide athletic training services for the University's Athletic Department and non-varsity activities, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.

• Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

• Responsible for the formation of the University's athletic training staff, including hiring, training and supervision of assistant/associate athletic trainers, graduate assistant and student athletic trainers.

• Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs are customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.

• Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.

Administrative Duties

• Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions.

• Assist the Athletic Director and Business Manager in the development of the sports medical program budget.

• Recordkeeping and documentation of a variety of related material including training records.

Additional Functions

• Maintain currency in NCAA and other conference affiliation rules and regulations.

This is a full-time 11-month position.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a sports related discipline. Three to five years of athletic training experience.

• National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) Certified Athletic Trainer.

• Licensed or licensed eligible in Rhode Island. CPR and First Aid certification required.

• Prior supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals in the University community including students and faculty.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to function in a service and team oriented environment.

• Strong ability to work effectively with student-athletes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related discipline.

• Three to five years of athletic training experience at the collegiate level.

• Some travel is required, driver's license is strongly preferred.

• Available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and some holidays.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salaries for new hires at Roger Williams University usually fall between the minimum and midpoint salary ranges.

$60,974 - $62,000
