Job Summary:

The responsibility of the Head Athletic Trainer is to administer all facets of the athletics training program as well as the clinical education program for student athletics trainers.

Essential Functions:

1.Provide comprehensive care for all injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.

2.Maintain a medical file for each student-athlete, including written records of all care rendered.

3.Coordinate AT coverage for all home games/events of high-risk sports, and as many away contests as needed. Schedule additional support through Christus hospitals as needed.

4.Provide support, as needed, for all practice sessions on campus. Be on call for all teams practicing off campus.

5.Foster relationships among trainers, the team physician, other attending physicians, health services, coaches, athletes, and parents.

6.Develop, implement, and supervise a clinical education program for student athletics trainers and select individuals to participate in same.

7.Adhere to CAAHEP accredited programs, NATA Code of Ethics, Code of Professional Practice, Department of Health Guidelines for Conduct of Licensees, and NAIA Code of Ethics.

8.Maintain the sports medicine facilities and equipment.

9.Prepare and maintain the sports medicine budget.



  1. Assist the head coaches with injury prevention and physical conditioning.

  2. Assist in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics.

  3. Prepare an inventory list for Fall orders. Coordinate with AD all equipment needing servicing or replacement.

  4. Prepare an annual summary for all sports and submit to the Director of Athletics by June 15 of each year.

  5. Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect for the competencies of others, and appropriate conflict resolution behavior.

  6. Oversee the usage and updating of Healthy Roster for coaches, compliance, and emergencies.


Additional Responsibilities:

1.Serves on committees as requested.

2.Participates in Athletic Department programs and activities.

3.Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

4.Requires travel 5-10% of the time or as needed.

6.Will adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies.

7.Contribute and support the university vibrancy initiative.

8.Maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year.

9.Conduct business within the limits of the allocated budget.



  1. Support all athletic department activities and fundraisers.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.Effective organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

2.Ability to learn, apply and adhere to NAIA rules and regulations.

3.Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public.

4.Understanding of and commitment to the catholic faith and its traditions.

5.Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus.

6.CPR and AED certified.

7.Ability to manage primary and secondary insurance claims.

Education and Experience:

1.Bachelor's degree required; National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification required.

2.Three years experience in a collegiate athletic training setting preferred.
