OVERALL SUMMARY

This role will be part of the Film Programming group within Business Affairs and reporting to the VP, Film Programming.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write evaluations for acquired programs produced by international HBO networks that are airing on HBO/MAX in the US

  • Determine appropriate content advisories by reviewing major studio and other acquired film programming

  • Screen and evaluate library submissions for library deal negotiations

  • Attend NYC agency screenings and write evaluations of select independent film acquisition candidates

  • Scout, research and provide recommendations in preparation for film festivals

  • Assist with ad hoc department projects as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree required

  • Outstanding critical thinking and writing skills required

  • Ability to communicate effectively with agents, distributors, and other executives, inside and outside of HBO

  • Flexible and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize a high volume of work

  • Must have discretion and the ability to work with highly confidential matters

  • Prior film industry experience strongly preferred. Extensive film knowledge/passion is essential.

  • Spanish language skills preferred

VIEW JOBS 9/19/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-18T00:00 OVERALL SUMMARY The Media Software Architecture group designs, builds, deploys and supports software solutions that implement digital media workflows and pipelines in support of HBO's acquisition, evaluation and management of mezzanine-level digital media assets received from theatrical studios and HBO Original Programming post-production facilities for HBO's broadcast and non-linear distribution channels. POSITION SUMMARY The individual serving in this role will provide leadership to the software development staff of the Media Software Architecture group. The Technical Manager has primary responsibility for execution of software development projects with the assistance of the group's Architect, Business Analyst and Project Manager. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide day-to-day management of software development projects for the Media Software Architecture group * Own primary responsibility for sprint planning, design and code reviews, build, test and release management * Supervise the group's software development engineers and manage work assignments * Collaborate with the group's Project Manager and Business Analyst to develop project requirements with project stakeholders and HBO Operations staff * Lead the design and development of media production workflow automation solutions * Integrate third-party media asset management solutions with other systems in media production workflows * Integrate HBO business systems with media production workflows and pipelines * Assist the group's Architect in choosing third-party libraries, tools and products * Draft software development project plans and develop level-of-effort estimates * Work with the group's Architect and Project Manager to define software development standards and process * Ensure HBO software development standards and processes are followed by the group * Create and maintain project technical documentation * Interface with the technical staff of third-party software and systems vendors * Provide mentoring of junior technical staff and managing their professional growth * Provide support to post-production and editorial staff, with occasional 24/7 availability rotating among other group members PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS * BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other equivalent technical degree * 5+ years of software development experience in a corporate environment * 3+ years of experience in a technical lead/manager role * 3+ years of Java language development experience * Experience implementing SOA-based architectures with REST and SOAP web services * Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution * Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of technical and non‑technical staff * Knowledge of scripting languages such as Ruby and Python * Experience implementing solutions using JMS * Experience working in an Agile development environment SECONDARY REQUIREMENTS * Knowledge of digital media production pipelines and workflows * Experience with web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Angular JS * Knowledge of C++/C# languages * Experience with BPM and workflow frameworks such as Activiti and jBPM * Experience with cloud based technologies * Experience with JDBC/ORM, Oracle RDBMS and MongoDB About Us It's HBOSM America's most successful premium television company, Home Box Office delivers two 24-hour pay television services—HBO®and Cinemax®.
