Job Summary: To provide for the welfare and safety of all participants in and about the swimming areas. Lifeguards must have a clear understanding of the rules, regulations, and operational and emergency procedures and be able to enforce those rules and procedures. Customer service and safety are our primary concerns.

Job Qualifications

Required-

  • Must have a current American Red Cross or other acceptable lifeguarding certification.

  • Must have current CPR/First aid for the Professional Rescuer.

  • Must have strong water skills and maintain top physical fitness level.

Preferred-

  • A minimum of two years of guarding experience in a pool environment.

  • Experience with monitoring water apparatus such as: fountains, slides, and geysers.

  • Experience with pool maintenance.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Individuals should be serious in their attitude toward their job responsibilities and have aptitude for thinking clearly in emergency situations.

  • Responsible for the rescue and emergency care of any accident victim in and about the pool.

  • Accurate reporting of any occurrence in accordance with Health Bridge policy.

  • Preventing accidents by encouraging situations that are within the guidelines of established safety procedures.

  • Must attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as assigned by manager and will be held accountable for all information given at meetings and trainings.

  • Accept responsibility for all assignments given by Pool Manager or Head Lifeguard.

  • Responsible for following prescribed daily pool maintenance duties and notifying the appropriate Manager if any readings are not normal.

  • Opening and closing guards will have specified duties that will be required, that include but are not limited to the following: pool and deck cleaning, locker room cleaning, stacking of deck furniture, etc.

  • Guards will project themselves with an aura of authority, while maintaining a positive image through tact and genuine concern for the pool users.

  • Required to cover both Indoor and Outdoor Pool hours as needed.

Marginal Job Duties:

  • Provide assistance for set up and breakdown of special events.

  • Available to help with facility rentals.

Physical Job Demands:

  • 20/20 vision, or corrected vision to 20/20.

  • Ability to hear sounds from 10' away.

  • Concentrate and pay attention to detail for a period of 4 hours.

  • Able to demonstrate the use of any rescue or first aid procedure.

  • Able to swim a distance of two lengths of the pool without rest.
