Hazardous Materials Operator - 2nd shift in GAC Savannah

Unique Skills:

Forklift certified is a plus.

This is a second shift position.

Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. 3 years hazardous materials operations.

Position Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Hazardous Material Operator is responsible for the day to day operation of the wastewater treatment system and the proper on-site handling, storage, recovery and disposal of hazardous waste materials.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

• Communicate with Safety Representative to identify hazardous material documentation, handling storage, and disposal requirements.

• Maintain a current knowledge of Federal, State, and Corporate Hazardous Materials regulations and procedures.

• Identify hazardous material/waste requirements that pertain to documentation, storage, handling, and disposal.

• Identify alternative products or processes that would minimize waste streams whenever possible.

• Ensure that wastewater treatment equipment is operating as designed and monitor the condition and performance of key components.

• Maintain accurate records of treatment processes, materials, quantities and test results.

• Accomplish, monitor or direct the quantities and types of hazardous materials collected and stored and arrange for the legal and timely disposal of products.

• Develop/maintain a training program on internal hazardous waste storage and disposal procedures.

Additional Functions:

• 1. Arrange for and perform maintenance functions of the applicable equipment as required. .

  2. Verify that the paint hangar waste production does not exceed the intake capacity of the wastewater treatment system. .
  
  

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

• A working knowledge of Federal, State, and Corporate regulations.

• Basic math skills are required.

• Knowledge of procedures for the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials, and possession of associated certifications.
