What You Will Do:

The Hawkins Grant Field Coach will be hired to mentor and coach a caseload across two districts of teacher candidates through their field experiences, conducting both in-person site visits required as part of licensure and real-time video coaching sessions. The Field Coach will support the candidates and mentors through the Community of Practice. With a background of successful teaching in K-12 and pre-service settings, the coach is responsible for 1) deepening mentors' capacity to guide and grow their residents and 2) providing residents with relationship-based coaching on all aspects of effective teaching, leading to greater success in the program. This is a grant-funded position that runs through December 31, 2026, but this date may change based on grant funding, the needs of the university, and as determined by administration.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Content Test Tutoring for Hawkins Candidates, including small group and 1:1.

  • Prepare, facilitate, and support community of practice work, including bringing together mentor teachers, school administrators, faculty, and students on a monthly basis to establish and examine key data indicators of teacher dispositions, and the implementation and impact of high leverage culturally responsive practices on instruction, learning and school climate.

  • Teach one year long practicum course, or related number of semester hours in program.

  • Supervise candidates across districts in the program, which includes regular observations and feedback, communication with mentor / cooperating teacher, and providing support around competencies and dispositions in the field.

  • Support the mentor training for BA and MAT mentors across programs.

  • Support the Hawkins Project Director, Hawkins Internal Evaluator, and Residency and Alternative Pathways Programs Director in related activities.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instructor, Teacher Preparation or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience supervising, coaching, and supporting pre-service or in-service teachers.

  • 1-3 years of experience teaching graduate level coursework.

  • Assessing Student Progress: Uses varied and appropriate measures of student progress and achievement level (e.g., does not rely on a single testing format). Assessment methods (e.g., quizzes, tests and other progress indicators) provide fair, accurate and meaningful criteria for measuring academic achievement levels. Assesses student growth beyond the realm of academic knowledge or problem-solving (e.g., assesses character development, ability to work on teams, etc.).

  • Teamwork: Is an effective team player who adds complementary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates in an open and candid manner and can be counted upon to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team.

  • Flexibility: Adjusts quickly and effectively to changing conditions and demands. Discusses change as a necessary and inevitable aspect of organizational life as well as an opportunity to learn new things. Has a similar view and approach to potentially stressful situations. Invests personal energy toward accepting and adapting to change that others use toward resisting or resenting it.
