HMoW helps seniors and disabled individuals preserve their independence at home by providing a nutritious meal, where our staff and volunteers also perform informal wellness/safety checks. For many of our clients, this provides peace of mind for their busy working families.
Our drivers are met with smiles of welcome, gratitude and appreciation. In addition, our large coordinated volunteer effort (over 400) make for a win-win situation for volunteers by picking up meals from nearby kitchens and delivering them to neighbors in their immediate community. Thus, clients are fed a nutritious meal and receive community support; in turn, our volunteers feel the positive impact of giving back to their local community.
HMoW is increasingly recognized as the sole provider of customized, therapeutic meals for low income seniors and the disabled on Oahu. Over 60% of our meals are specialized therapeutic diets. Every meal is prepared by one of 11 certified kitchen partners (hospitals and nursing homes) who have an onsite registered dietician for strict quality control.
In addition, meals must be transported from the licensed kitchen in an air-conditioned vehicle within an hour for food safety. In 2015, HMoW served 88,000 meals. In 2016, we served 97,150 meals and in 2017, we served 105,731 meals.
The increase in need and request is about 8%-10% each year. VISTAs are key to our organization as they will be the foundation and the impetus to developing and implementing this data project. VISTAs will help us collect, analyze, streamline data and find creative ways to problem solve.
We plan to have 2 VISTAS- one to develop our client data and one to develop volunteer/donor data. We also plan to implement the project in 4 phases: 1) Collection of Good Data, 2) Analyzing Data, 3) Brainstorming and Creative Solutions, and 4) Presentation of Data through Social Media and Marketing.
