The City of Roanoke is seeking an Intake Worker to work Monday

  • Friday from 8am

  • Noon. The In-take Worker will perform a variety of administrative work related to the Coordinated Assessment System.

    The successful candidate will work closely with intake specialist to pre-screen families for homeless and homeless prevention services; greet clients, assist with initial intake process, check for client information, and direct to appropriate case worker; answer inquires about routine procedures and policies; be responsible for obtaining family verifications, background checks, and other information that may be needed to meet provider eligibility criteria; and communicate frequently with frequently with program participants to inform of criteria and eligibility requirements. They will also work closely with the Intake Specialist to obtain income verifications and to maintain family data for wait lists and assignments; be responsible for client data entry; and keep abreast of changes in the field and research new methods of service delivery. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience and/or training in the human services field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Must possess a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Greet clients and facilitates client access to service resources.

Supplies information about agency and/or community resources.

Verifies data, assists clients in making arrangements for various services.

Assists Intake Specialist in determining client needs, monitors case progress and maintains dictation of activities

Answer incoming calls and listen compassionately to callers.

Gather and record vital information regarding client's needs.

Identify needs and possible sources of help.

Extensive data entry in Homeless Management Information System database.

Utilize Microsoft Excel for data collection and tracking.

Refer clients to the most appropriate resources.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience and/or training in the human services field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supplemental Information

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as laws, policies, and regulations. Ability to prepare reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, or oral form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
