The City of Roanoke is seeking a HAT Case Manager to provides a variety of human support services for agency clients. Caseworkers will be required to develop a positive working relationship with area shelters, human service agencies and religious congregations.

Locate and provide necessary assistance to those individuals who are residing in locations not designed for sleeping. Assist individuals in securing and maintaining safe, affordable housing. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with major work in human services, social science, or related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Examples of Duties

SUMMARY

Provides a variety of human support services for agency clients. Caseworkers will be required to develop a positive working relationship with area shelters, human service agencies and religious congregations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Locate and provide necessary assistance to those individuals who are residing in locations not designed for sleeping

Assist individuals in securing and maintaining safe, affordable housing

Assess the needs of homeless persons and provide necessary case management and supportive services

Maintain statistical and demographic information as required

Assist the Roanoke Valley Task Force on Homelessness and the Director of Human Services as needed on homeless related issues

Guides, escorts and/or transports clients to service resources, e.g. clinics, hospitals, doctors, social services, social security, DMV, or picks up clients from TRUST, Rescue Mission, or Salvation Army

Greets clients, answers telephone

Conducts community education presentations as needed

Monitor and evaluate client progress

Maintain case management records for client in accordance with HUD guidelines

Performs other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with major work in human services, social science, or related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and prepare correspondence.

Ability to interact with people of all ages, social background and class. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to identify and solve practical problems, defuse anger, and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written or oral form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
