The Role:

As a hardware technician, you will be assisting in the assembly and testing of prototypes and initial production batches. You will be working closely with the engineering and product teams, and will be exposed to various production techniques. You must be passionate about building hardware products, and must have great problem solving skills.


  • Support engineering with designing, building, assembling and repairing prototypes
  • Interact with customers to assist with repairs
  • Build and test sub-assemblies
  • Build and test prototypes and initial production batches


  • Associate degree in engineering
  • Experience with CAM and CAD software such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing and 3D printing is an asset
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
  • Proficient with C++ and Python
  • Experience working with the assembly and repair of hardware products including soldering experience

As part of their role, they are responsible for expanding the applications and environments in which Heila control systems are used. They also collaborate closely with Heila's Project, Product, and others within the Engineering Team to understand and account for the hardware capabilities, upsell opportunities, product roadmap, and feature development timelines.</li></ul><p>SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES</p><ul><li><p>Play a crucial role in product scoping and roadmap / architecture discussions.</p></li><li><p>Design and implement the hardware, from creation to production and deployment.</p></li><li><p>Prepare engineering documentation, including product specifications, detailed design reports, test protocols, and technical procedures.</p></li><li><p>Provide technical support and guidance for post release production systems.</p></li><li><p>Coordinate with engineers on the Hardware team.</p></li><li><p>Based on customers' identified needs, effectively consider feedback and flexibility from the hardware to adapt to market needs.</p></li><li><p>Uses technical acumen to discuss application of Heila products in the context of customer's use cases.</p></li><li><p>Stay current with industry trends, making recommendations as needed to help the company excel.</p></li><li><p>Foster positive and effective business relationships at all levels.</p></li><li><p>Train and mentor less experienced teammates.</p></li></ul><p>#LI-Hybrid</p><p>Skills/Requirements</p><ul><li><p>3+ years of experience with project planning related to electronic products</p></li><li><p>Master's degree preferred in Engineering, CS or equivalent</p></li><li><p>Strong ability to work across multiple disciplines</p></li><li><p>Experience working with both hardware and firmware systems</p></li><li><p>Excellent knowledge of design and visualization software such as Altium Designer and SolidWorks</p></li><li><p>Understanding of FCC, IEC, UL, CSA, and CE testing and compliance requirements</p></li><li><p>Experience with wireless protocols such as WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and WiFi HaLow</p></li><li><p>Interest in learning about control and optimization systems used in DER projects</p></li><li><p>Interest in learning about DER equipment and applications - including solar arrays, batteries, generators, fuel cells, among other</p></li><li><p>Interest in learning about resilience and economic use cases in DER projects</p></li></ul><p>We will consider applicants requiring sponsorship for this opportunity.</p><p>Why Work at Kohler Co.?</p><p>Kohler Co.'s mission is to contribute to a higher level of gracious living for those who are touched by our products and services.
