The Hardware Systems Engineer is responsible for designing hardware to support the CliniComp EHR. This includes embedded and standalone devices. The Hardware System Engineer is equally able to integrate off the shelf components and design custom hardware.


A successful candidate has a strong background in Electrical and Computer Engineering and demonstrates a mastery of current and emerging technologies.


Read and understand specifications of software, electronic components, mechanical components and computing hardware.

Solve problems in all areas including CliniComp hardware, 3rd party hardware, firmware, product requirements, product demonstrations, product support and regulatory compliance.

Select components such as CPUs, RAM, Flash, DC/DCs based on performance, price, availability, compatibility and suitability.

Specify mechanical design features that affect electrical properties, including EMI, EMC, and safety.

Work with a mechanical engineer to develop custom components when needed.

Take HW measurements using test equipment and create DVT reports.

Create PCB designs utilizing high speed (GHz) signals used with DDR3/4, PCIe Gen4, and USB as well as low frequency interfaces like I2C, SPI, and UART.

Apply Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering principles and standards to hardware designs.

Create product documentation including design documents, schematics, PCB artwork, DVT plans and reports, assembly drawings, bills of material, and manufacturing procedures.

Design and develop specific tests as required to evaluate system design integrity and performance. and evaluate test results.


  • Bachelors degree in Electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, cognitive science or mathematics with 5-10 years of industry experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain DoD ADP and VA High Risk Background clearance
  • Knowledge about current hardware technologies and interfaces as detailed in the job description.
  • Experience with leading PCB technology and electrical design/characterization of high speed signals like: DDR3/4, PCIe gen4, USB.
  • Have a deep understanding and experience of low frequency interface likes I2C, SPI, UART.
  • Solid digital/analog theory of operation fundamentals.
  • Good understanding of system jitter issues, signal integrity issues.
  • Design and develop specific testing as required to evaluate system design integrity and performance review and evaluate test results.
  • Good understanding of standards compliance.
  • Experienced in usage of ECAD tools and latest HW measurement equipment (DSO, SA, signal generators).
  • Experience developing electronic products from beginning to end and dealing with contract manufacturers.
  • Unix and scripting skills.
  • Excellent Failure Analysis capability to deal with complex issues.


  • Strong understanding of ARM based SoC architectures and bus interfaces.
  • Experience in low power embedded systems, from 8-bit and 16-bit micro-controllers to multi-core ARM based SoCs. Expertise in Orcad board tools.
  • Knowledge of server technologies and current CPU, GPU, SSD, NVMe, HDD, SAS, Infiniband, DPU technology.

As a member of an international cross-functional team, you work closely together with electrical engineers, transducer engineers, system engineers, and ultrasound engineers.</p><p>You are responsible for</p><ul><li><p>Being a key contributor to the development of diagnostic disposable devices and capital equipment</p></li><li><p>Conceptualizing, designing, developing and sustaining RF analog electronics in the field of medical ultrasound.</p></li><li><p>Interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of marketing, hardware, software, catheter design, and manufacturing to refine design requirements for next generation intravascular diagnostic imaging catheters.</p></li><li><p>Specifying and qualifying appropriate components, equipment, and design tools based on documented analysis of design specifications, costs, availability and reliability. Integrate into new and existing designs.</p></li><li><p>Performing tests and debugging of designs with documentation aligned with the quality system.</p></li><li><p>Generating and releasing design documentation per production development procedures.</p></li><li><p>Leading, generating and conducting formal verification and validation plans for completed designs in collaboration with Quality and Regulatory.</p></li><li><p>Actively participating in the transfer of designs from R&amp;D to Manufacturing.</p></li><li><p>Conducting technical design reviews with the project team(s) and independent subject matter experts across the company.</p></li></ul><p>You are part of</p><p>A global, cross-functional technical team responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Intravascular Ultrasound products. You are a member of the Ultrasound Engineering team.</p><p>To succeed in this role, you'll need a customer-first attitude and the following</p><ul><li><p>BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.</p></li><li><p>5 + years experience in design and development of RF analog electronics and testing of high speed mixed signal electronics, preferably in the field of medical ultrasound.</p></li><li><p>Experience using circuit simulation software, schematic capture software, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzer, emulators and other lab equipment to test and debug analog and mixed-signal designs involving multiple PCBs and subassemblies.</p></li><li><p>Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, drawings, manufacturing instructions and technical analyses.</p></li><li><p>Industry experience creating detailed design documentation (specifications, design descriptions, verification and testing plans).</p></li><li><p>Experience with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), and signal integrity testing to international standards.</p></li><li><p>Experience using Engineering Change Order (ECO) release process and document management/PLM systems.</p></li><li><p>Experience applying IEC 60601-1 and related medical device electronics standards is highly desirable.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work in a team environment and highly matrixed organization</p></li><li><p>ASIC design experience, including using analog simulator (Spectre) and schematic capture and layout (Virtuoso), within the Cadence Integrated Circuit (IC) Design toolset desired.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with cardiac and vascular catheterization procedures, tools, and terminology desired</p></li><li><p>Capability to work in a fast paced, regulated environment, with strict adherence to a quality system</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated skill in solving problems</p></li><li><p>Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, in order to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties including Company management and outside business associates</p></li></ul><p>US work authorization is a precondition of employment.
