ABOUT THE POSITION
The Hardware Engineering department is an integral part of the Engineering Organization that supports product development. As part of the team, the Hardware Engineering Technician will regularly collaborate with other team members and departments to help move projects forward or resolve issues in a timely manner. In this role, various functions will be performed such as; new hardware evaluation, device configuration development, quality acceptance and Firmware regression testing, cable harness creation or modification, Hardware/Firmware troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and creation of supporting documentation as required. In addition, the Hardware Engineering Technician will provide support to the Sales, Customer Experience, Customer Success, and Customer Support teams to help resolve issues as they arise. This position will help ensure Hardware Engineering meets all product-related tasks as well as provide troubleshooting support and training to other departments within the organization.
This is a hybrid remote/office position but may be adjusted based on business needs. The Hardware Engineering Technician is required to have a private workspace in their home with proper internet connectivity that ensures productivity. This includes but is not limited to simultaneously connecting to multiple work-related websites as well as video conferencing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and maintain a firm understanding of internal systems, processes, and procedures
Generate and maintain device configurations and test plans for new and existing devices in G-Suite
Provide support to the Software Development Teams with product integration and troubleshooting
Perform functional testing on the workbench and with in-vehicle drive tests to validate device behavior and performance
Perform new firmware validation testing and OTA firmware updates as required
Investigate, analyze, and resolve technical issues
Work directly with vendor(s) and internal team members to resolve device hardware and firmware issues
Train and assist Fulfillment personnel with deploying new or updating existing products
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Degree in electronics or a related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience
3+ years of prior experience with technical analysis and troubleshooting of telematics or similar electronic devices
Knowledge of basic electronics, test bench skills, and simple soldering techniques
Organizational and interpersonal skills as well as proficient written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate business needs and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and G-Suite office productivity tools, etc.
Experience with conducting verification and validation testing on electronic devices and sub-systems
Knowledge of telematics device operation, GPS receivers, and cellular networks
Knowledge of Ethernet/Wireless networking, Bluetooth networks, and communication protocols (TCP, UDP, CoAP)
Knowledge of the Agile project management process and Jira is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The hours of this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM
