The Small Combatants & Ship Systems Ship & Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for the functional leadership of a cross discipline team of engineers (Systems, Mechanical, Software, Electrical) within the RMS Engineering & Technology Organization. This role is responsible for staffing, training, talent development, technical process improvement, cost estimating, communications, metrics, technical reviews and the full spectrum leadership of the group. The manager will maintain and ensure compliance with all digital development processes, design standards and tools. This position is a hybrid role that will serve as the primary point of contact for SCSS Baltimore programs at the Moorestown facility and will initially focus on Ship Design and Controls Development through the Baltimore Transition. Routine Travel between both sites is required and partial telecommuting will also be considered as part of this role.
The selected candidate will work closely with the SCSS Chief Engineering organization and demonstrate a breadth of technical knowledge in multiple areas. In this role, the leader will directly support the LCS & MMSC Ship Design and Test Programs as well as the Machinery Control Product Line Development across multiple ship classes. This role will be used to expand the existing Baltimore staff in Moorestown to support site transition activities between the 2 sites specifically focused on the Ship Design and Controls Product Line SW Development. The candidate will support both lab and staff transition through the transition process. The ideal candidate will have exceptionally strong interpersonal skills, business acumen, organizational aptitude and professionalism. The manager will regularly interface with other cross discipline functional leaders throughout RMS and may present to the senior leadership teams concerning both technical and functional topics.
Candidate must possess a BS in an engineering discipline or related field
Candidate should have demonstrated performance supporting Ship Design & Build Activities and/or Machinery Controls Development
Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering Design and Analysis experience
Prior Cost Account Management Experience
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to comprehend and work successfully with complex systems
Candidate must be a self-starter and able to perform job function and make effective decisions with minimal oversight
Previous Significant Leadership Experience
Demonstrated project or team lead
Periodic Travel to the RMS Baltimore Facility is required
