Responsibilities

As a Hardware Engineer Intern, you will work with a team with Personal Systems on projects to:

  • Design new computer hardware, creating blueprints of computer equipment to be built

  • Test completed models of the computer hardware they design

  • Analyze test results and modify design as needed

  • Update existing computer equipment so that it will work with new software

  • Oversee the manufacturing process for computer hardware

  • Maintain knowledge of computer engineering trends and new technology

Internship Specifics

HP Workstations (www.hp.com/workstations) is a high-performance, high-integrity, and customer focused organization seeking motivated and talented engineers with a passion for technology, quality and creating the most powerful, innovative, and secure Workstation Computers and Solutions.

This position is for an electrical hardware engineer intern with solid design knowledge to solve complex technical issues. This position is in the Workstation Business Unit and the selected candidate will be part of an R&D HW team responsible for designing and providing technical leadership for Workstation platforms and components.

This role will support electrical motherboard and component design including digital, embedded power, and power supplies for our innovative Workstation hardware and solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for electrical design and/or embedded power systems along with strong technical leadership and communication skills. This position is based in Fort Collins, CO.

If you are our Workstation Electrical Hardware Engineer in Fort Collins, you will have a chance to:

  • Contribute to the design solutions for electrical and solution components of our industry-leading Workstation computers.

  • Develop and implement parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of requirements, and system signal or power measurements.

  • Collaborate and communicate with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.

  • Review and evaluate designs and project activities for innovation opportunities and provide analysis and input to improve product quality.

  • Work cross-functionally with key partners to deliver product definition meeting feature, quality and user experience goals.

  • Routinely exercise independent judgment in developing criteria for achieving objectives.

Are you a high performer? We are looking for an individual with:

  • Understanding of design for electronic components, integrated circuitry, and algorithms.

  • Understanding of thermal and electromagnetic properties of materials and managing emissions.

  • Experience or understanding of electrical design tools and software packages.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Teamwork mindset, able to assist others to resolve urgent issues as requested.

Education

Bachelor's or master's degree candidate with a focus on computer engineering or electrical engineering

These groups include Workstations, Virtual Reality, OMEN gaming, Business Notebook, All-in-One and Desktop computers. The MSL is responsible for electronic and mechanical failure analysis of HP products, quality and reliability testing of systems, the development of new materials (glass, plastic, metal) and ensuring that HP products meet HP's environmental sustainability requirements. Our interns are involved in all aspects of the lab and will gain proficiency in both engineering and scientific measurement tools.
