Company Overview

Hardware design engineer with emphasis on high speed digital design. Responsibilities will include board design, PCB layout, simulations, component selection and support to manufacturing /customer support on various acitivites. This is a product development position requiring some background in developing high end systems including high speed simulation, layout guidance, and working with Mech Engr for enclosure design and associated sub assemblies.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Board and system level high speed digital circuit design, integration, and evaluation. Maintain product ownership.Perform high speed circuit simulation (HSPICE, Hyperlinx, ADS, HFSS etc) and be responsible for board design and functionality.Generate PCB layout guidelines and work with outside PCB layout service providers. Perform board bring up and work with firmware/logic engineers to ensure product functionality.Develop board level tests and test procedures to ensure that the product meets electrical and engineering specifications. Use these procedures to transfer products to Operations.Work with mechanical engineer to design product enclosure and cross check with electrical designs.Design and implement unit characterization tests, production tests and integration tests. Execute, analyze and verify test results.Assist in EMC certification as necessary.Support Manufacturing and Customer Support on various issues.


  • Minimum of 2 years of board level design exp designing and developing high end, high speed embedded platforms including latest bus topologies, CPU, and memory interfaces.

  • Knowledge of high speed (16Gbps or higher) design methodologies and simulation preferred

  • Knowledge in high speed clock circuit design, implementation and measurement preferred

  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

  • Some background in debug, high speed Timing, and Jitter analaysis and measurement

  • Working knowledge of various EMC/EMI control methods and implementation at PCB/component level

  • Working experience with various schematic entry tools and test/measurement equipment including high speed, real time oscilloscopes, network/spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers

  • High emphasis on quality and reliability of product is a must

  • Team player. Be able to share knowledge, learn from others, and support other groups within an organization

  • Bachelor in Electronics Engineering or Instrumentation. Master's degree preferred.

Job Description The Hardware Product Security Engineer will be a member of the Product Security Assurance team specializing in security considerations for hardware components in storage devices, including ASICs. This individual will provide crystal-clear technical direction and risk mitigation guidance for diverse engineering and business leaders at all levels. This person will also lead the evolution of secure development practices for hardware components. During the product development process, this individual will advise the development team on security requirements and evaluate the architecture with a security lens. The Hardware Product Security Engineer will lead security risk assessments, guide threat modeling activities, and participate in validation of security requirements at the component or system level. Responsibilities * Design and implement security architectures and features for hardware and storage devices * Be a key technical contributor to the continuous improvement of the Secure Development Lifecycle * Develop reference threat models for hardware components and devices overall * Assist development teams in adapting the reference threat model to the product/component specific threat model * Perform security assessments, code audits and design reviews of embedded platforms throughout the secure development lifecycle * Raise awareness and understanding of security considerations with engineers and leaders at all levels of the organization * Collaborate with development teams on security during design/development/testing * Partner with teams to develop robust security validation plans and verify implementations of security controls * Research and develop technical solutions to mitigate security risks * Participate in industry consortiums/standards bodies and conduct research to identify new attack vectors and industry trends Qualifications Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience) * Bachelor's degree or greater with focus in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field from an accredited college/university * Design and engineering of security requirements and security controls for hardware components or storage devices * Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and best practices * Hardware security architecture design and integration * Knowledge of low level hardware-software interactions, such as storage in flash, RAM or cache * Working understanding of security threats, security risk assessments, security threat modeling, security risk mitigation, and security incident reporting * Experience working with cryptographic protocols/libraries Typical Minimum Experience Preferred (Desired Skills/Experience) * 5-7 years of related experience preferred * 3+ years of embedded hardware/software design and development * Familiar with FIPS 140 * Experience with two or more of the following: real-time software development, vehicle electronics and controls, embedded systems design, application security, penetration testing, incident response * Experience with embedded software development is a plus Additional Information Western Digital thrives on the power and potential of diversity.
