Primary Function of Position:
Design and construct pioneering manufacturing equipment used to produce minimally invasive medical devices. This manufacturing equipment will range in complexity from custom manual fixtures to semi-automated electro-mechanical systems, integrating work holding, sensing, motion and vision control. This position will play a critical role in developing cutting edge manufacturing capabilities to enable the future of minimally invasive surgery.
The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of the technical aspects of electrical engineering and design. He/she will work closely with senior level equipment staff and other department staff and assist in developing custom equipment from design to sustained production use. This person will thrive working independently on projects with mid to high complexity.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Independently applies expertise across broad range of design activities and scope to generate designs exhibiting best practices.
Assist in the investigation of optimal methods and equipment architecture to perform critical manufacturing operations.
Design and implement electronics to support manufacturing equipment from concept to full solution.
Document the equipment requirements, specifications, design, and operation in compliance with Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP).
Direct and perform qualification and validation on manufacturing equipment to fulfill company and government requirements.
Design, implement and test FPGA firmware.
Support and modify existing FPGA firmware.
Develop and support firmware testbenches.
Determine troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration procedures for equipment.
Provide equipment-related technical support to on-going production operation and expansion.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
Self-motivated, willing/able to take initiative, works well with others in a team environment.
Minimum 4 years' experience developing electronics and firmware is preferred.
Ability to specify and design mechatronics components such as sensors, motors, and motion and vision control components.
Hands-on engineering experience with proven ability to work well in a team environment.
Strong ability to isolate and debug embedded hardware and software problems.
Experience with Object Oriented development in C++ (or similar) is a plus.
Experience with LabVIEW is encouraged.
Experience with embedded Linux development is a plus.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Familiarity with regulated Quality Systems, especially medical device regulations, is a plus.
Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment is a plus.
Able to travel periodically (10%).
