About you and this role:

This role provides specialized technical support and solutions for project teams, operations and maintenance. Understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools and industry best practices within their discipline. Instrument and electrical designers support both projects and technical support teams as a lead for their discipline. Requires broadened technical skills within the instrument and electrical technology disciplines. Mentors team members with less experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures drawings and specifications are clear and meet the needs of the business.

  • Ensures inspection and maintenance records are maintained within electronic system.

  • Ensures reviews are completed on time and that drawings and specifications are followed by fabricators, constructors and maintenance contractors.

  • Ensures safety in design.

  • Serves as the leader of the project within their discipline. Has accountability for project results and for the implementation of and adherence to all relevant work processes, best practices and code requirements.

  • Supports front end loading to ensure clear scope definition along with establishing plans and schedules to enable adequate control during execution.

  • Supports the completion of deliverables provided to estimating and reviews output of the estimate to ensure accurate reflection of scope.

  • Supports technical contract package development and implementation. Direct designers/drafters in bid package creation. Conceptualize plans, details and sections to accurately convey construction or fabrication requirements.

  • Coordinate and analyze vendor supplied drawings and incorporate the required information into project drawings.

Your skills, knowledge, and abilities include:

  • Understand Safety Instrumented Systems and their requirements.

  • Able to interface effectively with field technicians, construction contractors, other disciplines and team members, as well as key stakeholders.

  • Understand Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Provide consultation to clients on technical issues (DCS, instrument, etc.).

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Able to read P&ID's and transfer information into instrument design.

  • EPC coordination and review of project deliverables.

  • Discipline lead and site administrator for Document management system (Adept).

  • Drives value engineering and economic designs to ensure the best value is delivered to the business.

  • Leads activities within their discipline design and coordinates activities with other disciplines.

  • Enjoy working with data.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills so able to discuss complex issues with a broad spectrum of audiences.

  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing several tasks and priorities.

  • Able to use appropriate judgment in escalation or when to involve other resources in decision making or processing.

  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (both written and spoken).

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED is required. An Associate's Degree is preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years design experience

  • Expert level knowledge in design tools (MicroStation, Connect, S3D, SPI).

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders

  • Work in tight and close in spaces

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator

  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise

  • Work in an area with hazardous materials

Preferred Skills:

  • State of MI Journeyman Electrical License

  • Some practical engineering knowledge and experience preferred.
