DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is looking to hire a Quantum Hardware Development Engineer in the Test and Measurement group. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers working at the forefront of quantum computing. You should have knowledge of quantum computing, instrumentation and circuitry in electrical measurements, programming and data and statistical analysis.

We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles, resourcefulness and a bias for action, superior problem solving, and excellent communication skills. Working effectively within a team environment is essential. As a Quantum Hardware Development Engineer you will be expected to stay abreast of the field of experimental quantum computation.

In this role, you will measure a variety of superconducting devices related to qubit performance. Focusing on measurement efficiency and automation, you will help drive improvements to increase the rate and quality of information produced by our test systems. Using these tools, you will collect statistically significant data, analyze the results, and prepare reports for dissemination to the research and development team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent

  • Experience in electronic instrumentation, analog and digital circuitry, measurement hardware set up

  • Excellent skills in problem solving, organization, and communication. Ability to learn new topics as needed

  • Thrives in a collaborative environment with a diverse group while contributing to an inclusive culture

  • Proficient in a scientific programming environment (one or more of Python, Mathematica, MATLAB, or similar high-level language)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent

  • Ability to contribute to high-performance test setups and automated data analysis pipelines

  • 1+ years' experience in microwave/RF circuits

  • Experience with or knowledge of nanoscale superconducting devices and qubits

  • Knowledge in one or more of quantum computing, material science, device physics and cryogenics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $77,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
