GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a motivated and organized Electrical Engineer to join an existing integrated multi-disciplinary engineering team building advanced cryogenic test systems in support of HRL's world-leading silicon quantum dot technologies. The individual will be responsible for the design, simulation, and development of a wide variety of specialized electrical systems and components. The candidate will interface with other designers, system architects, and scientists to derive requirements and guide designs for electronic subsystems and components that will be integrated into more complex systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Oversee electrical components design and PCB schematic & layout

Execute common industry practices regarding hardware design review processes with core group of design engineers

Perform electrical simulations of component performance using finite element method solvers and RF simulation tools

Capture design requirements and adhere to established process documentation control

Work with scientists and quantum engineers to develop electrical systems through simulation and analysis

Produce engineering documentation including process instructions, block diagrams, netlists, schematic diagrams, low-level drawings, and bills of materials

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 4 years of experience in laboratory or manufacturing environment involving electronics component development and PCB design

Strong working knowledge of PCB software design environments (Cadence Allegro is preferred) and PCB manufacturing standards

Familiarity with finite element method solvers for electromagnetic structures (e.g. Ansys HFSS)

Ability to work well in a creative team environment, possess excellent communication skills, and have willingness to train / mentor others

Ability to spend long periods of time at a computer monitor, and ability to travel.

EDUCATION DESIRED:

Minimum of BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field

Additional experience may be considered for more advanced positions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S.

Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "U.S.

Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Our teams within the department are involved in all phases of the engineering life-cycle, from concept development to operations. <br><br> The ideal candidate will have experience with implementing systems engineering processes/practices on projects involving hardware at low technology readiness levels. Skills necessary include writing technical requirements, developing concept of operations and creating interface control documents that align with system architectures and supports the configuration management for future system operations.</p><p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES:</p><p>Lead integrated teams through systems engineering concepts/processes such as; organization of requirements, interface control documentation, design definition and development, all in support of a future systems.</p><p>Improve the research environment's system engineering processes, including planning, implementation, and monitoring of the requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.</p><p>Leverage Model Based Systems Engineering methods and tools to perform trade studies, complex analyses, and evaluate performance parameters throughout the system life cycle from concept definition to technology demonstrations.</p><p>Support concept of operations development, functional, and performance requirements.</p><p>Support hardware engineering design reviews, engineering review boards, and planning of verification and validation test plans.</p><p>Ability to effectively and proactively communicate and collaborate with project teams and management.</p><p>EXPERIENCE DESIRED:</p><p>MS and 8+ years of work experience, or PhD and 5+ years of work experience.</p><p>Strong hands-on experience with systems engineering, integration, and test (commercial products, space hardware, or likewise).</p><p>Systems Engineering lifecycle, processes and the ability to apply these processes in a new technology/research-type environment is essential.</p><p>Education or experience with one or more of the following are desired: DOORS, Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), CAMEO model-based engineering tools, and/or Multidisciplinary, Design, Analysis and Optimization (MDAO).</p><p>ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p><p>Creative problem solving and strong organizational skills.</p><p>Excellent communication skills; includes both oral and written</p><p>Ability to work well in a team and willingness to mentor others.</p><p>EDUCATION DESIRED:</p><p>MS or PhD in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field.</p><p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p><p>U.S. Citizenship is required.
