Your Role

As a member of the Digital Experienceteam, your role is to help envision, scope, and implement digital engagement opportunities. You will be the bridge between the physical and digital world, connecting the greater architecture and design teams at Gensler with our Digital Experience Design team to craft truly integrated technological solutions in the built environment.

You are curious about all types of technology and appreciate how it contributes to a larger experience. Your knowledge of existing hardware technologies and media displays pushes the boundaries of physical design beyond a "rectangle on a wall." Playing with hardware excites you and building relationships with inventors and vendors lets you showcase the latest emerging commercial technologies to the rest of the team. While cutting edge technology inspires, a realistic awareness of 5-15 year longevity requirements guides your technology choices. You will be educating and inspiring the larger Gensler team about both applications and limitations of technology.

The Hardware Creative Technology Lead will be responsible for collaborating with fast-paced interdisciplinary teams of developers, interaction designers, graphic designers, digital and brand strategists to deliver projects ranging from discrete digital installations to multi-faceted immersive interactive environments. The Lead will demonstrate exceptional vision and technical knowledge, supporting projects from conception to completion, and ensure successful project outcomes. You understand architect/engineer workflow and construction process, and the ways technology systems design & integration projects fold into the built environment.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with clients, design teams and other designers on projects across multiple industries

  • Proven ability and relevant work experience in cross-functional environments including Retail, Corporate, Museum and/or Large-scale media experience design.

  • Have mastery in combining proven and emerging AV and IT technologies into robust integrated systems that enable powerful experiences.

  • Provide technology inspiration, thought leadership in application of technology in design, and innovative in solution approach

  • Identify, research, and recommend technology solutions, specifications, and requirements

  • Are proficient in 2D drafting in Vectorworks or AutoCAD, with basic 3D Modeling skills in Vectorworks / AutoCAD / 3ds Max / Rhino / Sketchup a big plus.

  • Develop for the needs of the clients and end users, understanding the balance between the two

  • Create and maintain project documentation

  • Collaborate with external technology and solution vendors

  • Lead coordination and collaboration efforts with external AV partners and freelancers

  • Build repertoire and maintain hardware prototyping lab

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 year's experience

  • Ability to present technology solutions to non-technical audience

  • Lead experience integrating digital and technology as a component of physical space design and experience environments

  • Experience working with projection, LED, LCD, dynamic lighting, multi-channel audio systems, supervisory control systems and other commercial AV hardware.

  • Experience reading, creating, and directing others in producing 2D/3D Architectural and Technical CAD drawings for a variety of technical systems design needs.

  • Exceptional critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work to schedule, provide work effort estimates, and collaborate on overall project scope definition

  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets

  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly and understand diverse technologies and techniques.

  • Desire to employ best design practices and to develop new bold ideas

  • Must provide a portfolio in either PDF form or a link to a website portfolio
