Overview

The Hand Therapist is responsible for providing safe and effective delivery of patient care including Examination, Evaluation, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention and Establishing Outcomes.

This is a casual position located at the M Health Clinics and Surgery Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Job Expectations:

  • Evaluates and reassesses patient condition.

o Gathers pertinent data.

o Performs appropriate examination.

o Determines occupational therapy diagnosis.

  • Determines plan of care.

o Analyzes data to identify needs and potential risks.

o Determines prognosis for recovery.

o Establishes goals with patient or caregiver.

o Implements and modifies plan of care based on reassessment and patient response.

o Coordinates care and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team to achieve desire outcomes.

o Establishes appropriate discharge plan.

  • Provides appropriate and effective interventions.

o Educates patient and family on appropriate care.

o Complies with standards of productivity and time management.

o Provides proper documentation of interventions provided and patient response.

  • Documentation/Billing

o Uses acceptable medical terminology

o Follows professional practice standards

o Completes documentation in a timely manner per department standards

o Complies with department billing standards

  • Productivity

o Meets or exceeds departmental standards for productivity

  • Professional Expectations

o Prioritizes tasks and patient care for effective time management

o Understands and follows professional licensure/certification requirements

o Directs appropriate team members and/or supervises students as designated

o Pursues personal and professional development to support clinical best practice

  • Quality Improvement

o Identifies opportunities for process /quality improvement

o Participates in and supports entity/system initiatives.

Organization Expectations, as applicable:

  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served

o Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.

o Communicates in a respective manner.

o Ensures a safe, secure environment.

o Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.

o Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.

o Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.

  • Fulfills all organizational requirements

o Completes all required learning relevant to the role

o Complies with all relevant laws, regulation and policies

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill

Job Responsibilities:

Required

Education

  • As required by licensure

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 month Hand Therapy internship

License/Certification/Registration

  • Current Licensure by state of Minnesota for Occupational Therapist or temporary license in the state of Minnesota or

  • Current licensure by state of Minnesota for Physical Therapist or temporary license in the state of Minnesota

  • Basic Life Support certification

Preferred

Education

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy

Experience

  • 2+ years

License/Certification/Registration

  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)
  • Current Licensure by National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
